In Cold Blood – Beatrix Rose #1 by Mark Dawson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
OK lets be clear i picked up this book fro two reasons one I’m very familiar with the author and like his stuff two the title i admit i was expecting something in the line of Truman Capote s book but this was different and just as exciting.I love the character and Marks style of writing. I couldn’t put it down and lost sleep to finish it and it was worth it. Pick up your copy and get ready to become a fan.

Here’s more technological stuff Jeff bought a device called magic jack he had it registered in Colombia. This device plugs into your computer and allows you to make free phone calls back to the US or Canada or vice versa to Colombia. Well the free six months ran out and he needed to pay 29.95 to renew it. So he goes on line does the credit card thing and magic jack says no good. He gets a customer service rep online and tells her what’s going on. She writes back are you sure you did it right and he says yes then she says do it again while I’m online with you. Well Jeff did it still not working she says it his bank he says well he’s used it online to pay bills down here and buy stuff and have it shipped from Amazon. She suggests another credit card which Jeff does still the same. She says it his bank. Well now we have a very pissed off Jeff that ends the conversation politely but you really didn’t want to talk to him right then. So he figures he’ll figure out what’s wrong in the morning when he’s not so pissed. He goes online to his master card account and sees three charges for a dollar each form magic jack that have been approved he also sees one on his checking account card also approved. So he says OK I guess I have to have someone in the US renew the magic jack. In the mean time his wife tries to pay the cable bill online and they find out all there card are blocked which means they have no access to their money which is in the bank in the US. At this point I decided to hide since smoke was rising from Jeff’s head. The reason was now, unless he wanted to pay a huge phone bill, he had no way of calling the bank and straightening out the problem with the bank. Now he has to try and contact someone in the US by email to see if they can renew the magic jack for him so he can call the bank and get this all settled. Continuing with our blogs about technology and our use of it lets look at robots and the potential danger. We are closer today to having functionally intelligent robots in our lives than ever before. But is this a good thing or bad thing? The United Nations is trying to limit what they call killer robots, ones that can make decisions about life or death without human input. A robot that looks at a situation from a purely logical point of view and then acts based on logic. In other words I point a gun at you; the robot interprets this to be a threat against your life and reacts logically attacking me either to disarm me or possibly killing me. Pure logic would indicate killing me so as to remove the perceived threat permanently. But what if I was acting trying to teach you self defense, or just playing? Would the robot be intelligent enough to be able to analyze this and then act accordingly? These are questions the UN is trying to address, the problem however is this. A robot who is an instrument of pure logic will at some point determine that peace or victory is only possible when both sides in a conflict are eliminated. That would mean having the terminator movies play out in real life. No me being a cat I don’t even like windup toys so I vote for no robots. But humans being inherently lazy creatures will go ahead and build them with the idea they’ll eventually make life easier, that’s the reason computers were invented and how did that work out for you? Millions of people lost jobs complete occupations disappeared never to return. Maybe humans do need robots so they can realize just how stupid the superior human life form really is.This is Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin Colombia.

To say we live in a disposable society is an understatement especially in the US and a couple of other so called advanced countries. Every few months there is a new rumor about a new operating system for your computer or a new iPhone coming out or TV. But do you really need it? I mean look at cell phones do you really need a new one or do you buy it so you go to your friend look. Jeff doesn’t have an iPhone or tablet he still has an old laptop which he lets me use to write this blog and he lugs around a digital camera. First he likes the pictures he gets with the camera and he needs a full size key board to write with and with his eyes a seventeen inch screen is also necessary. Ruby has a tablet and now spends more time on line than ever before doing nothing. Jeff watches all his friends and relatives with smart phones texting and talking while you’re trying to have one of those old fashioned things called a conversation with them. But that isn’t the point the point is what’s so special about the new phone that you can’t live without it. I mean really is a new game apt worth junking your old phone and getting a new one. Now they’re coming out with smart watches and smart glasses. More stuff that once a new version comes out you’ll throw in a drawer never to use again. I know if we didn’t do this stuff the economy would be in trouble but if Jeff was to do this his economy would be in trouble. One more thing isn’t it funny when you walk through some poor neighbor hoods the kids have $150 Nike Air Jordan’s on and are listening to music with Beat head phones and either an iPhone or iPod. Well this is Flounder going to take a nap on an old T-shirt and listen to some 50’s music saying CIAO from Medellin Colombia one of the most wired cities in the world.

Jeff is a little depressed lately because he’s not selling any books and he knows part of the problem is he doesn’t really have the money to do a proper marketing job. So he leaves it up to his friends on Facebook and his followers on Twitter. But that doesn’t seem to be working. He wrote his first book back in 2012 and only sold three the second book only sold two back in 2013 the third which represented a change in gender from Science Fiction to Mystery Thrillers has sold six. But we all know what pig headed goof he can be so he’s writing a fourth book, this one another Mystery Thriller featuring his new hero Samuel S. Sampson is presently titled A CHILD IS MISSING that might change you never know with Fats. He’s about 21000 words into it and seems to really be going at it. He also has plans for a book about me titled Flounders Great Adventure not to be confused with this blog this story will really be about me and contain some photos which means it will only be available in paperback and hopefully around Christmas. Well it’s been raining all night so it’s quiet around here right now that makes it a good time to take a nap. This Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin, Colombia.
DEFORESTATION THE FORGOTTEN EVIL

Did you know that rain forests are responsible for about 28% of the world’s oxygen? We are always talking so much about global warming and food production that we’ve put one of the greatest dangers to the survival of mankind on the back burner. That danger is deforestation which is the cutting down of old growth forests and not replanting. It is a real problem in South America where Brazil leads along with Venezuela it seems the more the economy grows or the more oil or coal, gold etc is found the more they want to destroy the forests. Jeff and I believe this contributes to global warming as it leaves more co2 and other elements normally filtered out by trees and plants in the atmosphere. Now we’re not scientist or alarmist either, we just study the stupidity of man and wonder if there will be a world left for Jeff’s grandson Hari and His Great nephews Billy and Jackson to enjoy. The most disturbing thing about mankind is its complete lack of forethought. I mean they love to look back and find blame after it’s too late but aren’t real keen on protecting the future. Leaving instead for the next generation to try and repair. The unfortunate part of this is these idiots are affecting my life and the rest of the animal kingdom as well. Jeff has always been told things will get better as you get older I don’t think that applies anymore I think they’re getting worse and it will be the same way for the next generation. THE HELL WITH THEM

Well it looks like the US government and the CIA are back up to their old tricks of leaving people out in the cold. The first one that Jeff knows about has to do with Cuba we supported Castro when he was in the jungles fighting. But when he came out and threw out the Mafia and started looking for financial help to build a government the US hemmed and hawed until he went to the Russians and Chinese and then said they were betrayed, now there like the Hatfield’s and McCoy’s yelling and blaming each other for the feud. The next big abandonment was the Mujahedeen in Afghanistan after they had gotten Russia out of the country The Us decided that was all they wanted now they could go back to riding camels and growing dope. Unfortunately one of the people they pissed off was a fellow named Ben Ladin and he kinda took it personally. Now we have a group of specially trained Afghans trained and armed by the CIA and were going to cut them loose. This is just one of those really well thought out diplomatic plans that the US is becoming known for. There are still hundreds maybe thousands of people that fought next to American soldiers in Viet Nam that have been persecuted for their assistance to a unthankful government. DOCTOR, DENTIST AND DRUG STORE

So this morning Jeff had a doctor’s appointment for a physical and he was also going to get an emergency appointment for his toothache as well as pick his medicine for the month. The whole thing took three hours including the dentist which tuned into a root canal. Oh almost forgot he got a flu shoot too. Now here’s the part you guys in the US are going to hate the whole day cost him $3.33 yup that’s all his insurance costs $52.00 a month. Kind of makes you want to move doesn’t it. He still has to have a permanent grown done and he has to see a specialist about some possible blockage in his arteries but still $3.33 not to shabby. People tell him he’s lucky for most Colombians it takes a lot longer to get appointments but Jeff was always lucky that way even in the US. Well nothing else to talk about right now so this is Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin, Colombia.

Every year I write about this day called Cinco De Mayo it’s the Latin version of St Patrick’s day where everybody pretend to be Hispanic and drinks too much and eats a lot of hot food. You don’t see this day celebrated the same way down in Mexico I think there holiday is tomorrow or the next day. This is a liquor company holiday designed to sell lots of Tequila. It’s amazing how companies can distort holidays for their own purposes. From my experience most people don’t need a holiday to go out and drink the holiday is just an excuse to drink to much and act like an asshole. Jeff is an alcoholic and he will tell you he stayed out of bars on days like today because it took too long to get a drink with all the amateurs around. Well we don’t have that problem down people use the sun coming up as a n excuse to drink. Well that’s it Happy Cinco De Mayo be safe this is Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin, Colombia

I really don’t have atopic to blog about today so we’re just going to talk about stuff. How much stuff do you have? You need to clean out your closet and throw some stuff out or give it away. Why? So you can go out and buy more stuff. If you don’t then the companies won’t be able to sell stuff and if they can’t sell stuff they’ll have to fire you. Now you won’t have money to buy any new stuff but don’t worry there won’t be any new stuff. So you decide to sell your stuff but there’s a problem. All the business’s shut down because nobody was buying new stuff so nobody has any money to buy your stuff. So you go and rob your neighbor’s stuff and he robs his neighbors stuff etc. etc.. Now business’s start to steal from everybody and then the country decides to steal from other countries and they get pissed and steal everything back. Then somebody decides to Nuke the other country so they can keep their stuff and the other country decides to do the same thing. After awhile they come up with bombs that kill the people but don’t hurt the stuff and this goes on for awhile and then eventually there’s nothing left but stuff.
