give-a-man-a-truth-14916-1920x1080Colombia wants a truth commission after the peace talks with the Farc are concluded. The problem with that is like the quote from jack Nicolson’s character in a few good men “You can’t handle the truth”. Now you sit there and say what does he know that we don’t know? The answer is nothing absolutely nothing. Ok how can you say that we can’t handle the truth? By looking at the people who want the commission and they are politicians and the one thing you’ll never get from the politicians is the truth. First they’ll lie and say they are protecting hence the quote above. Then they’ll tell you a story with half truths and years later when it won’t make any difference they’ll let the truth out. But getting back to the quote if all the truth about the Farc’s revolution was to be told you’d would see the influence of organized crime not only on them but on the government as well. Now we know that even the peace talks are all about money and that the truth is none of the negotiators give a shit about the people most affected by the vilolence and that would be the poor people. If the Farc was to go into Bogota and attack the headquarters of a major corporation or bank do you think that they would still be around. No the government would have had to send a major force out to destroy them, but if they blow up a small police station in the country side then they can stand around on TV and say how outraged they are and in reality do nothing. If this was to come out in some truth commission hearing the results would probably topple the government. But what do I know I’m just a cat this is Flounder saying CIAO from Colombia.

how-far-can-technology-advance-before-it-takes-over-the-worldMy wife Ruby and I and her son john went to the store to buy her a tablet. The she and John chose was made by a company called PC smart. We should of realized when it too the sales person three tries to get one that worked that it wasn’t going to be a good thing. Sure enough after checking everything in the store she got it home and it wouldn’t charge so today she took it back and got one for almost the exact same price by Samsung. Now PC smart is a Colombian company and the tablet was made here unfortunately Colombia hasn’t learned about quality control and using unskilled labor. Sort of like China and Japan when they first started trying to duplicate American products. But once they figured it out and they had all that cheap labor they started making better and cheaper stuff then America could. They now manufacture most if not all the electronic gadgets sold in the US whether it’s sold by an American name such as Apple or not. So what I’m saying I guess is Colombia makes great clothing and furniture but at the moment its electronics leave a lot to be desired. I think that if they keep trying they will get there and maybe they’ll be the next China or Japan. This is Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin Colombia.

casanare4Well I’ve got a post today to show you how short sighted and stupid humans can be. If you look at the photos above you’ll see the effects of drought on California and parts of Colombia. These just didn’t happen overnight and now they’ve reached levels that will take years to repair. That is of course if they can be repaired. In California whatever they do will probably affect the Grand Canyon as well as neighboring states water levels for years to come. My question what were they doing before this and the answer is don’t worry it’ll rain soon or we’ll find more water soon. It’s one of the things I’ve talked about in blogs in the past you can’t just worry about where your waste water goes you have to worry about drinking water you build and build and people water their lawns and wash their cars and they feel that they are entitled to this and you can’t just come in and tell them hay stop that. How many times have you driven by a golf course office building in the rain and seen the automatic sprinklers on at the same time or in the case of the building the sprinkler is aimed at the street? Water is not the only thing we’re going to start running out of soon if we’re not careful. I’m tired o f trying to get you humans to understand you can’t keep screwing with Mother Nature and expect to survive. This is Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin.

1984firstOk so I didn’t write a blog yesterday well it was a holiday in Colombia and I took advantage of it. But today I decided to review a classic that I’m sure younger readers of this blog have not read. I say that because before we left to move down here Jeff had tried to find a copy in the local library and was only able to locate a very old paper back version that they were going to remove permanently from the shelves of the library. The book in question is George Orwell’s 1984 which, was originally published in 1949 with the cover that I have above. I believe this is a great example of how forward thinking fiction writers are. If you read this book (and I think you should) you will see a great many things which are happening now in our society. I must warn unless the newer editions have updated the language it can be a difficult read at times. This is the book where the phrase “Big Brother Is Watching You” came from it’s about a socialistic society with totalitarian leadership. I personally believe that this is becoming increasingly more possible I enjoy this book and when I reread it I always try to make sure it’s in its original form. I don’t just recommend this book because of it status of classic but I think it’s a must read for everyone everywhere now it’s been published in 64 languages so there is no excuse for not reading it. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAToday I just want to say thank you for all the nice things people have said about yesterdays post. I really think like that if I didn’t I’d start to feel really old and would stop listening to all my young friends which in turn would mean I’d stop learning. I wrote yesterdays post not because I was feeling old but because I look around and see people complaining about getting old and I think they forget about all the wonders they’ve seen. Even babies can feel the wonder just look at their faces when they take that first step or for that matter the first fall. As we’re growing in age we literally don’t take the time to smell the Roses. We shouldn’t have to look at a bunch of photos to remember and appreciate what we have witnessed. People don’t look back because they’re afraid of the sadness that might be hiding there but it can’t hurt you if you remember its all part of the process. Well this concludes my sentimental trip to my memory it’s time to continue on and find something that will stimulate and get people yelling at me again. indexLet’s talk about age shall we you what happens when you live awhile. Jeff is 68 years old and is astounded by what he has had the privilege to witness. He saw the Korean War on something called TV he got to listen to old time radio and fondly remembers the shows Gunsmoke, the Shadow, Dragnet, the Lone Ranger, Abbott & Costello, Phillip Marlowe, the Great Gildersleeve, the Green Hornet, and Fibber McGee and Molly. If you want more go to Wikipedia and look up old radio programs. He has been able to listen to all type of music from Dean Martin, Perry Como, Dinah Shore, Frank Sinatra and Enrique Caruso. He has seen the birth of Rock and Roll and every major star it’s produced, many in person. He has seen radio replaced by TV, Video Tapes, and DVDs. He has seen man walk on the moon. He’s seen the world map change. He has seen legendary sports figures such as Bob Cousy, Sam Huff, Mickey Mantle, Arthur Ash, and Billy Gene King. He seen women role in the world improve, he’s witnessed desegregation, 18 year olds getting the right to vote. He has also seen how the world doesn’t learn from its mistakes. He has had the privilege of see every major world event since 1949 when his memory started to function. So for those of you getting older look back and see what you’ve been fortunate to see and experience like the birth of a child or grandchild don’t complain about getting older embrace it. I find it difficult to try and review books beyond the fact that I greatly enjoyed it, after all if it wasn’t for spell and grammars check I wouldn’t be able to write my name. But if you want me to review the story I guess I should get started. The main character is a government assassin by the name of John Milton who in this book develops a conscience and decides to quit. Well you the big boy s can’t have that so we see how they and John handle it. Mr. Dawson weaves a story that will prevent you from putting it down until you’re done. Now obviously I’m a big fan of the spy story thanks to my mom getting me to read Ian Fleming and then Robert Ludlum and others. I can’t say more about this book other than I highly recommend it and others in the series so look for more of John Milton by Mark Dawson. brackets2009cNo book review today it our favorite time of the sports year March Madness. You also have the champions league Soccer, Hockey, NBA, Spring Training and the NFL draft. How much more do you want? Right now our big interest is in the College Basketball tournaments both men’s and women’s. These will keep us occupied till the Hockey and NBA tournaments start along with the NFL draft. And in between we have the Champions league so from now till July one Jeff will be a crazy person cursing at the TV or his bracket and I’ll just stay in the bedroom and wait till July. This is Flounder saying CIAO from Colombia. Oh did I forget the World Cup begins in May.

The title is RATS and might lead you to believe it’s about four legged rodents but that would be wrong there are no rodents I this story. Which stars out like an eco terrorism story and ends up with a very strong environmental and humanitarian theme you will learn the after effects of war that nobody wants to think about. How thing we do in a war now will affect you and future generations. This is a great combination a fabulous story and the themes I mentioned before. In the beginning you won’t know who is good and who is bad you learn this as the story plays out. I couldn’t put this down until I finished it and I highly recommend it.
