keep-calm-and-still-no-internet-no-phone-no-tv-I almost forgot it was Monday. You know when you don’t go to work every day looks just like the other one. Here’s an interesting thought, what would you do if the internet and cell service collapsed tomorrow morning? Would you panic run around crying or would you be able to cope. I mean you’d have to go to the library to look things up you would still have your regular phone service but no cable TV. You would have to get up and walk next store if you wanted to see your neighbor no video chat no social networks. Facebook would once again be the local beauty salon or tavern. You’d have to go to the post office and buy stamps the mail your letters. No more instant gratification you think you could handle it. I for one would enjoy watching young people running around without a clue while some of old folks aren’t bothered at all. Young people would have to read a magazine or newspaper to find out what was happening in the world. People would have to talk to people again. No more internet porn well that would be good. No more tweets or instagram photos of Britney or Paris running around without underwear. People would actually have to do something with their lives instead of sitting there using their thumbs to talk. Well while you ponder that I’m going for a walk, remember those. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAJust a couple more things referring to yesterdays post have you seen the business news lately and how Facebook and Amazon are going around and buying every company they can? Well they are and now if you want to get rich it’s like the old dotcom days. Just start a company, have it do something along the lines of a social network or package distribution. And one of these two behemoths will come along and offer you an unreal sum of money to sell to them. It’s almost immoral the kind of money that they talk about for basically office space. Some of these companies have great ideas but really haven’t been able to get the proper financing to put them over the top. While others simply have an app or do something that one of the two companies feel they could make better use of or might actually be better than anything they could come up with. You know like a better steak knife or apple peeler. When one big company buys a smaller one they usually do what referred to as cherry pick it assets before throwing the rest away and that includes its employees. It boils down to this a couple of people get rich potential competition is destroyed and everybody else gets screwed. Hey this has been fun don’t forget tomorrow is mischief night and Friday is Halloween. This is Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin, Colombia.

7-Sites-For-Indie-AuthorsJeff is a little depressed lately because he’s not selling any books and he knows part of the problem is he doesn’t really have the money to do a proper marketing job. So he leaves it up to his friends on Facebook and his followers on Twitter. But that doesn’t seem to be working. He wrote his first book back in 2012 and only sold three the second book only sold two back in 2013 the third which represented a change in gender from Science Fiction to Mystery Thrillers has sold six. But we all know what pig headed goof he can be so he’s writing a fourth book, this one another Mystery Thriller featuring his new hero Samuel S. Sampson is presently titled A CHILD IS MISSING that might change you never know with Fats. He’s about 21000 words into it and seems to really be going at it. He also has plans for a book about me titled Flounders Great Adventure not to be confused with this blog this story will really be about me and contain some photos which means it will only be available in paperback and hopefully around Christmas. Well it’s been raining all night so it’s quiet around here right now that makes it a good time to take a nap. This Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin, Colombia.

indexI’ve been watching Jeff when he’s writing and have seen him spend an inordinate amount of time on Facebook and Twitter as well as other what are referred to as social media sites. At first I thought he was promoting his books or keeping tabs on friends and family in the US. But now I think he does it more as a addiction than anything else. But this morning he said to me Flounder this is getting ridicules I need to work on my book ad I’m spending time looking at dumb stuff. He has friends that are as bad if not worse than him posting all kinds of stuff like they have nothing else to do with their lives. Now most of this stuff is well intentioned for the most part and it helps Jeff stay up on what going on with his friends. Now Jeff says Twitter is how he promotes his books and keeps tabs on one of his nephews and I believe him I just think and he agrees he needs to back off of Facebook a little. He must spend an hour or more in the morning just going over what has been posted the night before. Anyhow this is what he says he going to do from now on he’ll post his album of the day and then he’ll just check once a day from now on and try to limit the amount of time he spends on the sight and spend more time on this blog with me and on writing we’ll see if he can do this. In the mean time this is Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin

Social-networkingLet’s talk about the use and abuse of social networking and before you say don’t you use social networking the answer is yes we do. But we don’t walk around with a smart phone or tablet and constantly tweet or post to any of the other mobile social networks. We use Facebook as way to stay in touch with our friends and family in the US. Twitter started out the same way but now we use it to promote this Blog and Jeff’s books. You must understand Jeff comes from a generation where you either waited till you got home or went over to your friend’s house and talked in person. Jeff has been in social situations where everybody is texting and he wonders what’s so important that it can’t wait. He would become bored with the other person if they kept texting about every little thing. He understand the business use but people should realize that unless you have a lie detecting app on your phone you can’t really tell the emotional meaning of the comments being texted to you. Jeff has probably only used text twice in his life he doesn’t really use his cell phone he has it for the original reason he got his first one emergency situations. Jeff also realizes this is probably a generational thing although he’s very tech savvy. Jeff just doesn’t really care what you’re doing at this moment and thinks texting while there are people having a conversation with you is rude. But he is old so you’ll have to take that into consideration. I could go on manly because it’s fun to make fun of humans and there electronic gadgets. They better hope the power grids and internet never collapse because they wouldn’t have a clue how to talk to each other. This is Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin.

escapism-lJeff has been looking on Facebook and sees friends and relatives discussing the Oscars and how moving or whatever this picture or that picture has been. Jeff doesn’t understand that he feels he lives life he doesn’t want to pay money to see life; he wants to escape it for an hour or two. He likes to watch Sci-Fi movies and then discuss the possibility of what he watched happening in the near future. He loves action picture where the bad guy gets his and the good guy is a hero. He really loves it when the “good guy” gets to torture and kill the bad guy. He loves movies and books where he can’t predict the end after a few minutes or pages. But it would seem he is in the minority people want to know the end before the beginning they love stories that reflect real life. I guess that’s why Jeff still reads comic books and what people used to call “Dime Store Novels”. Today’s movies are all the effects and the cinema photography there are few great actors and even fewer movies for them to act in. Jeff doesn’t understand why someone would fork out twenty dollars to go to the movies watch bad acting and come out and say Oh that was so moving it was like were really there. News Flash: most of you were wouldn’t you rather see a movie or read a book that stimulated your imagination rather then you memory. Well we’re out of here this is Flounder saying CIAO from Colombia.

SLB_OddsAndEnds_OpenStill don’t have any real exciting stuff I mean I could talk about spying in Colombia but what’s the big deal everybody is doing it now. How about Facebook is ten years old and there making movies so you look back to the day you joined Jeff saw his pretty cool brought back memories. Jeff and Ruby filled out the paper work to renew his visa and national ID card. This should be good as I don’t think they have a clue as to the right way to do it. Jeff is so frustrated he just doesn’t care anymore. It’s snowing in New Jersey and the sun is shining down here and it’s in the seventies. I think people like the cold until they get ready to retire then they don’t want to shovel any more or wear four layers of clothes. I will be talking a little about Jeff’s book later in the week that should be exciting NOT. Well I see by the angle of the sun it’s nap time this is Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin
