Cellphone_TheftWell you know how I like to talk about stuff and cell phones are stuff. I just read an article that said in Colombia last year 3 million cell phones were stolen. That works out to something like 8000 a day. Yup you read it right 8000 a day. Now to combat that the Government specifically President Santos wants to ban the import and export of used cell phones. I don’t think that will pass and I don’t think that will work if it does. But the bigger question is what are they really doing with those 3 million stolen cell phones? Do you think they’re stealing info they don’t have to steal the phone to do that? They can just walk by you and clone your phone and get all the info they want. If you think people in America are obsessed with their phones you should see people down here. If they have to go someplace that doesn’t allow cell phone usage they’re almost in a panic and as soon as they get out on goes the phone and they’re texting away. I think I’ve said this before I have a cell phone that’s strictly for emergencies. The people that are texting all the time have limited plans. If you make calls you need to buy minutes because most people can’t afford calling plans or don’t think they’re worth the money. In essence most phones in Colombia are pay as you go yet you must register the phone when you buy it. One thing I’ll tell you is that a cell phone is the biggest big brother tool in the Governments arsenal of spying. They all contain a GPS chip that will locate you to within feet. The cell phone social media are just tools that keep us from interacting on a truly personal basis. Well weekend is here and tomorrow I will actually post something about Jeff and his trains and there will be picture to show his progress. This is Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin, Colombia.

HE’S FREE

August 28, 2014

John-Jairo-VelasquezYesterday Colombia in its great wisdom decided to release a criminal known as “POPEYE”. This man had been in jail for 22 years for killing presidential candidate Louis Carlos Galan and the bombing of an Avianca plane that killed all 104 people aboard. He also shot and killed his own girlfriend on orders from Pablo Escobar. He was reputed to be Escobar’s no 1 hit man and as such can be tied to the deaths of at least 3000 people. He has admitted to only three hundred that he killed personally. Now to be fair the US does the same thing but to my knowledge they have never made a deal with or released anybody as vicious as “Popeye”. It is said that he has admitted to dismembering some of his victims. He got his early release because of good behavior and he has found God. Well I think this is all a crock of shit. He is asking for protection because he fears for his life. I for one would not want to stand next to this man because unlike the US Mafia these guys down here still kill people for rating on them. I believe that he will be dead if he stays in Colombia and I will have no problem with that. I don’t think law enforcement should make deals with these people so that they can free and write books or movies about their crimes. Don’t give me that bullshit about how the law says they won’t be able to profit from such endeavors because we all know there are ways around the law. I think guys like “Popeye” and Sammy the Bull and others who have killed and admit to it should be shot on sight not only that I believe they should offer rewards to the person who does the shooting. Once again this is a very pissed off Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin, Colombia.

WHAT A BUNCH OF—-

July 15, 2014

mmSo I wake up this morning turn the computer (Cats can do this you we ain’t stupid) and the first story I see on Yahoo News is Colombia’s president Santos tell people in South Florida what a good investment Colombia is. Now in the same article it mentions that he’s at a conference for Goldman Sachs. They are beyond a doubt the largest dirt bags in the world and have been screwing the little guy since the American Revolution. And if that wasn’t bad enough trade with South Florida was down four percent last year. Santos stands there and tells the world that drug and rebel violence is behind them now when statistics show it the highest level in ten years since he started his peace process. You want more ok here it is while the TV stations have been using the whole hour news shows to talk about the World Cup the neglect to mention the Colombia’s main oil pipe line was cut by rebels on Friday disrupting the movement of 70 % of Colombia’s oil. Now I’m not telling the world don’t invest in Colombia but I think they should be careful because as I said when Goldman Sachs is involved only the wealthy 1% stand to make out. I live in Medellin and I see the hundreds of homeless people live in under bridges, in storm drains, parks, and even sidewalks. I notice prices going up ever so slightly but enough to scare me and I have a good income. Everywhere you look high rise apartments are going up increasing the stress on the cities intra structure. I think the Colombian people need to make sure that investment money coming from the US or other countries gets distributed fairly and all go into Santos and his elitist friend’s pockets. KARMA

July 9, 2014

karmaOn Monday I wrote a post about how Colombia reacted to their team losing in the world and how they honored that team. Well yesterday Brazil got destroyed by Germany in a semi final match 7-1 and Brazilians reacted with shame and violence. Not only that’ it looked like the rest of South America couldn’t be happier that Brazil got whooped. Jeff was happy only because he had Germany as a finalist in his bracket. It was a sad thing to see yesterday when a team is out of contention 10 minutes into a game that’s an hour and a half long but that was the case yesterday. Jeff tried to warn people about laughing so hard at Brazil but to no avail. There is such as a thing as Karma in this world and some people better be careful. I just don’t understand you humans you win you go out and destroy stuff you lose you go out and destroy stuff doesn’t look like you can enjoy being happy. HUMANS NEED HELP

July 8, 2014

petroleoThis morning I saw this story on the news down here where the Farc had stopped an oil truck convey and made them poor 5000 barrels of oil out I to the environment. The photo accompanying this post is an actual news photo of the damage. What was surprising about this story was that this happens with a regularity that is amazing. You have to search the news and it usually comes from some other source other than Colombia but you will find that almost every week there is an attack on the oil pipe lines by the Farc. That is why the government is willing to make so many concessions to the Farc at the peace table. The Farc is costing them money lots of it. Does the Farc who says that their fighting for the poor people realize that what they did yesterday will prevent that land form being used for years to come? Do they realize that every drop of oil that hits the land is polluting the environment for years? What is it with you humans you go to war to preserve a way of life, you say you want to save the environment but you’re constantly trying to destroy it. No wonder people believe that someday in the future you’ll destroy yourselves. Look at that picture again and tell me how the Farc and ELN are fighting a revolution for the peoples of Colombia and that the violence will stop with a negotiated peace. QUESTIONS

July 4, 2014

sIt’s Friday and looks to be noisy down here. Colombia plays Brazil in the world cup this afternoon and cars started blowing their horns at 6:30 this morning. If Colombia wins there will be no sleeping around here this weekend. OK so the title of today’s post is questions no answers just questions. Why is it its Ok for Christians to force the Government to tell people what they can’t do such as Abortion or the use of Contraceptives, but it not OK for Muslims to try and force people to believe like they do? Why is it OK for the US to invade a country to try and make it Democratic? But if Russia invades a country to protect its citizens it considered illegal and an act of aggression. Why is it we say we want to conserve gasoline but cars ads are for powerful fast gas eaters? Why are we such a destructive race of people? Why do people hate blacks and gays but want to let the fight in our wars for us? And finally why are we so afraid of the truth? NOT FAIR

June 21, 2014

rewards1-680x400I was just going over the news and thought I’d get rid of some frustrations by writing a post. I know people in America get tired of me writing posts about Colombia but you have to understand what happens in politics down here has a greater effect on me than politics up there does on you. But today’s rant sort of covers both countries. First Colombia is going to release a paramilitary warlord early from prison because he’s old and claims to have memory problems. Which keep him from giving information that was part of a plea deal with the government, which we all know is bull shit. This sets a bad precedent for the peace talks. I want you to know I am not saying a negotiated peace is a bad thing. But I don’t think it should be done at the expense of justice for the victims. Now up there I was reading a story about bonuses for senior executives of major corporations and banks and I was wondering why they get them even when the companies are claiming to be near bankruptcy and begging the government for help. This is just telling the people tuffs shit keep working and say goodbye to your retirement. I don’t understand what it is about Americans that lets take this without huge protests or maybe even a small revolution. I’ve heard that it’s because things are still better in America. Not necessarily true America rates last in Healthcare its people are not happy that number one slot goes to Finland. I think Americans should start looking around and maybe start demanding some changes before they all become second calls citizens. I mean if I was still living in the US I could get a lot of rewards for bad behavior, kind of sounds stupid don’t you think. Well I got that off my chest so it’s time for a nap this is Flounder saying CAIO from Medellin Colombia.

MISS ME

June 20, 2014

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWell I skipped yesterday because of world cup soccer Colombia won England lost. Of course everybody was at our house to watch on the big screen and the Ruby’s son John was leaving for vacation in Argentina. So by the time Jeff got around to his computer I was taking my afternoon nap and couldn’t be bothered. You have no idea how big a thing World Cup Soccer is outside the US. The national pride is amazing you don’t see that at a lot of sporting events in the US although it has improved some since 9/11. A shame it took something like that to get people to become more patriotic. Hey what’s going on with all these school shootings they say there’s one every 78 days or something. I don’t understand Jeff says when he was growing up you could go to any hardware or sporting goods store and buy a rifle or shotgun like you were buying clothes. But unless you were Al Capone or some other Mafia person you didn’t run around shooting people every time they upset you. I think it has a lot to do with celebrity status everybody is looking for their 15 min of fame. They watch the news, which you couldn’t do a lot of when Jeff was growing up, and they see killers getting all the attention. So being that they are already a little balanced the think why not me. Now anti gun advocates are going to get upset with me but there was more access to guns 50 years ago then there is today. Granted the guns are more powerful and I really don’t see the need for thirty round magazines and gun that fire 700 rounds a minute be available to the general public unless they plan to start a revolution. Sometimes a wonder if where children are concerned if society has become too lenient or maybe it’s that fact that children get ignored more now a days as we try to claim our piece of the dream. Well I’ve depressed myself enough talking about you humans and you r weird behaviors so this is Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin Colombia.

ELECTION IS OVER

June 16, 2014

Juan-Manuel-Santos-Oscar-Ivan-Zuluaga-549x366Well Sunday was Election Day in Colombia and Santos won reelection promising peace. Ok so he gets peace with the rebels but at what cost the rebels who have been schooled politically by Russia in Marxism were being beaten badly in the so called war suffering heavy losses and finding it difficult to replace those that were lost. Now they are negotiating as if they had won and are saying they won’t settle if they have to pay for crimes committed. They want to be able to run for political offices in 2015. So you say what’s so bad about that there turning to politics instead of guns. Well take a look at Colombia and see what the Government has actually done for the average person and what do you see, the same poverty, the same inequities, the same problems with health care, and the same problems with drugs. Now you have people running for office that will preach equality of wealth that the resources of the country should belong to Colombians and not outside companies and even though I believe there should be more Colombian control of its natural resources I look at Cuba and Venezuela and see that it really doesn’t work. If you want to know what’s going to happen in the future of your country wait and see if Santos or one of his supporters asks for a constitutional amendment to allow Santos to run as many time as he wants. Watch and see the attacks on his opposition in the press and actual physical attacks. I believe concessions by the government in the peace talks were unnecessary and dangerous. I hope as time goes on I’m wrong about this I like living here this is Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin Colombia.

THEN THERE WERE TWO

May 27, 2014

Juan-Manuel-Santos-Oscar-Ivan-Zuluaga-549x366The election in Colombia is over and it didn’t go exactly like people thought. First there was no one with the necessary 50% of the vote to win. Second 60% of the registered voters didn’t bother to vote. Third Zuluago had 3 mor5 percentage points then Santos. Now this does not mean that he wins in the runoff on June 15, I think. What it means is the other three candidates get to play the role of king maker. Now I don’t know who is going to win what I do know is that these two idiots are as embarrassment to the democratic process. I think anyone of the other three candidates could have been a better choice. Well now the people that didn’t vote are going to get exactly what they deserve a rich elitist moron running a government that doesn’t care about the people unless they can make them money.
