HERE AND THERE

June 10, 2014

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWell there was no post yesterday and there won’t be one tomorrow or Thursday either. Tomorrow Jeff has a colonoscopy and Thursday they finish his root canal. I have to tell you it gets harder everyday to write this blog on a daily basis and to appeal to everyone we know. So we might go back to book reviews and entertain posts as well as butting up quotes from our favorite people such as George Carlin. We will still write about stuff that piss’s us off and when we do that remember we don’t really care if you want to hear it or not it’s therapy for us. Photos will have little to do with the posts from now on they’ll be of stuff we like. Now if any of you have a topic you’d like us to look into put in the comment section and we will do our best to do a post. This is Flounder not looking forward to Jeff’s colonoscopy prep today saying CIAO from Medellin, Colombia.

REMEMBER

June 6, 2014

dday_fbShareToday is the seventieth anniversary of the Longest Day June 6, 1944, better remembered as D-DAY. On this day the world began its biggest battle against a common enemy Adolph Hitler. There were others on his side Italy and Japan but Italy soon joined the allies in their desire to free the world of Hitler. Old Adolph has been referred to as the Anti Christ but I prefer to think of him as one crazy sun of a bitch. He might have succeeded in his quest for world domination if his ego and insanity had caused him to make tactical errors in military decisions. But this day showed what could be accomplished when the world got together against a common enemy. The world has many common enemies today the biggest two being overpopulation and Global warming both of which affect the whole planet but because of greed and its accompanying desire to be the ones sin charge they can’t produce the same unity as they showed in 1944. Maybe we need an Alien invasion like Orson Wells War of the Worlds to bring us together. I would hope it would be looking back and remembering the thousands of lives lost so that we could be the idiots we are today. This is a very Humble Flounder saying Thank You to all those who died so that we may experience the freedom we have today and it is my hope that we try to make sure that they didn’t die in vain CIAO from Medellin, Colombia.

COMMENTARY

June 5, 2014

CommentaryLet me ask the people of Colombia a question how many of you are directly affected by the “war”. If you’re not in the police or army I don’t think this war really bothers you other than it’s been going on for a long time. When it ends what do you think will change? Not much, I’d wager there will still be poverty and crime the drug trafficking won’t stop and if Santos stops the draft there will be more unemployed. The talk of peace detracts from what’s wrong in this country. Now don’t get me wrong I think peace is a good idea but when you’re using it as just another way to sell out the people it won’t last very long. I’m not a world leader, nor do I wish to be one, I’m a cat that enjoys the warm weather and beautiful scenery. My problem is that the two leading presidential candidates have no desire to help the people bot rather only to exploit them. Politics gives me a headache and indigestion so I’m going back to bed. indexWhen you go to the store are you aware of the ways you’ve been influenced in your choices? Most people aren’t or at least think they aren’t. Jeff wrote papers in college on advertising but most people think of it as ads on TV or billboards. When you go to the store and you buy something on sale you’re probably not getting the deal you think you are. As an example Jeff was in the super market on Sunday and they wanted to buy some Oatmeal Ruby picked up the usual brand and it was 3 for 10,000 pesos. She said this is a good deal but Jeff said look at the size they’re smaller than what we usually get and combined they don’t weigh as much as the package we always get. So in reality we were paying more for less even though we were getting 3 packages. This is one very common way of getting you to spend more money. Another is to advertise 50% off of list price. Well nobody sells anything at full list price so unless you know what the store sells the product for everyday you have no idea if you’re getting a great deal or not, the odds say you’re not. The odd say you’re paying more than you did the last time you bought the product. Now what makes things like this possible is that most shoppers don’t have the time to check prices and are just glad the item isn’t out of stock. But if you do watch your money you’ll notice that from week to week you grocery bill will fluctuate and you’ll think your saving money when you’re not. The same situations apply to clothes and other items even cars and other large ticket items. So take your time don’t rush and you will end up saving money. TALENT vs SEXUALITY

June 3, 2014

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????Have you noticed that sexuality is replacing talent in the music industry? Well I have there’s Shakira, Rihanna, and Miley to just mention a few. The problem I have with these women is that they actually have talent but would rather sell sex than use that talent. I don’t think when young people or older people think about a song of Shakira’s is playing in a club are going man the word just make me want to cry. No I think they’re thinking more along the lines of man I can see those hips grinding now and the same goes for the other two. But one thing will happen soon they will get older and no matter how hard they shake it there will be somebody younger and hotter out there shaking it better. So what happens then? Well they could ware skimpier costumes date younger men or could start using all that talent they have and make music that people will actually listen to. You remember Miley and her Twerking well people started to copy her. Down here it was a very talented artist named Fanny Lu who even styled her hair and costumes after Miley and truth be told she doesn’t have to with the voice that she has. I don’t expect this post to change anything I just thought I’d mention it. This is Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin, Colombia

WHAT IS HISTORY?

June 2, 2014

social-media-history1Well Jeff is finally feeling better after about with the old common cold so here we go beginning the month of June. I thought we’d look at history everybody knows what history is it just happened a second ago. Everybody collects something from history some people do it for a living others do it and don’t even know that’s what they’re doing. A little kid at the beach picks up a shell, that’s collecting history because it was once alive. Children are always collecting history sometime it looks like dirt but it wasn’t always there so it’s history. Scientists collect bones and soil so they can try to figure out what live or grew here years ago. You save pictures of meaningful events in your life you call them fond memories I call it history. Soldiers carry scars of wounds they received in battle they call them night mares I call it history. We may call it a lot of different things but it’s still just history to me. News people and writers would have you believe that only things that are major events in the world should be referred to as history. Not so say I: If you’re a mother and don’t think of the birth of your child as a historical event in your life than I feel sorry for you. Graduating high school or college or getting that job you wanted these are historical events in your life not just simple memories. So when you out tomorrow pick up a pebble and put it in your pocket and then you can say you’ve got a piece of history in your pocket. This Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin, Colombia.

THINGS NEED TO CHANGE

May 29, 2014

xI have written many times on my distain for politicians but apparently no one listens. So today let’s talk about how long we should let these idiots stay in office. First let’s look at presidents most in the free world are limited to how long they can remain in office. In the US its 8 years max and you can never run again for president. So what happens is the first term they spend laying out what they’re going to do and trying to get senators and others of their party elected. The end of the first term they spend trying to get reelected and the second term no one listens to them so they travel around making speeches. It’s pretty much the same in congress and the senate and other countries as well. The simple solution to this term limits, everybody agrees but doesn’t want to do anything about it. That seems to be to story all around the world the only way they change is by revolution and then democracy goes out the window. I don’t think, especially since both Jeff and I are older, that just because your old that you can’t hold a position of responsibility. But it does seem that the old politicians spend more time on golf courses and traveling on some corporation’s dime. There’s an old expression that power bring corruption and that is very true in the case of politicians. If you’re looking for honest y in politics I doubt you’ll find it people like Jeff who spent some time in politics, but couldn’t deal with the back room back stabbing life, leave politics and never go back. If you wish to make changes you must start at the bottom and work your way up and then avoid the money and power that will be offered you. You see the problem with staying in office or getting to be president is you build up a debt of favors and sooner or later you must pay that debt back. WASTE NOT WANT NOT

May 28, 2014

GarbageA20100111NGIt would seem a lot of people enjoyed my blog on waste so I decided to do another one. This is how we throw money into landfills in the US and other countries use garbage for a more constructive cause. In the picture above you see plastic bottles and cans in a garbage dump some place in the world. The Dutch are probably one of the best in the world at recycling their garbage at a rate of 60%. They have to recycle they have no room left to put garbage. They even build houses from trash. In Colombia construction debris is left at the curb and is recycled. What in America are called garbage pickers are actually people who go around and sort your garbage and then sell it to recyclers so that they can make a living. In the US when a charity needs money they will have people collect aluminum cans or news papers to make money. The problem in the US is things like glass and motor oil that you used to get paid for you know have to pay someone to pick up and dispose of. Old tires are used in most parts of the world in constructing roads. Just about everything we use can be recycled and used again. In the US people claim it takes too much time or getting permits to do recycling is too expensive. Now the problem of garbage is worse because we have electronics. Electronics contain bad things that can cause cancer and birth defects if they are pulled out of their protective shells inside the electronics. Computer monitors are some of the worst offenders and our garbage dilemma is not confined to the planet earth. When scientists get tired of figuring out ways to kill us maybe they could start figuring safe and inexpensive ways to use your trash. This is Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin Colombia.

THEN THERE WERE TWO

May 27, 2014

Juan-Manuel-Santos-Oscar-Ivan-Zuluaga-549x366The election in Colombia is over and it didn’t go exactly like people thought. First there was no one with the necessary 50% of the vote to win. Second 60% of the registered voters didn’t bother to vote. Third Zuluago had 3 mor5 percentage points then Santos. Now this does not mean that he wins in the runoff on June 15, I think. What it means is the other three candidates get to play the role of king maker. Now I don’t know who is going to win what I do know is that these two idiots are as embarrassment to the democratic process. I think anyone of the other three candidates could have been a better choice. Well now the people that didn’t vote are going to get exactly what they deserve a rich elitist moron running a government that doesn’t care about the people unless they can make them money. CAN YOU SURVIVE

May 26, 2014

indexOk could you survive a major natural disaster? What would happen if you cell phone and all you electronics stopped working? We all remember 9/11 and if you were in New York you know that for a period cell phones didn’t work but you could pick up you old plugged into the wall phone and it worked so long as it was from Verizon and not your cable company. Now that one example but let say you live on the coast and Global warming has raised the level of the ocean 2 inches. Now when you hear 2 inches you don’t get worried you think it means you’ll lose a little beach front , that won’t be the case. All of lower Manhattan will be flooded Florida will be mostly under water as will most cities on the east and west coast’s. So what do you do know you have to move to high ground and you know if your poor your screwed because now there’s less land for the 300 million people to live and grow food on. And a lot of what under water was agriculture land. So do you think you could survive this, a shortage of food and fresh water? Not only that but now there would be fuel shortages you cars got no gas your stove has no gas would you survive? Now as you read this I’m sure most people are laughing and saying this will never happen WRONG this will happen. Maybe not in your life time but I’m fairly certain in your children’s life time. So again I ask the question but know we look at our children who have never had to worry about food or water who if something doesn’t work they throw it out and get a new one. What happens to them when they can’t get a new one? This is Flounder saying CIAO from Colombia
