TRYING A LITTLE HUMOR

Well I’m going to try and be a little humorous today it’s going to be a challenge. First up you all know that Donald Trump use to be host of Celebrity Apprentice. He lost that gig when he made some bad comments about Latinos. Now NBC in its great wisdom has decided to place Arnold Schwarzenegger has the host. I can hear it now you fired and you won’t be back. Television continues to insult anyone with the least bit of intelligence. I see the Republicans are threatening to shut down the Government again. This time over taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood, they hope to gain financial support from the Christian conservatives out there. They believe that by shutting down the Government they demonstrate some show of power and support. There’s only one problem with that. That being since the Government doesn’t really do anything how are we supposed to know its shutdown. My final note concerns a young man by the name of Tiesto a DJ who plays EDM (Electronic Dance Music) he gets paid ridicules amounts of money this. EDM is basically computer software written by others for his benefit. Now, that’s not my real problem with it that would be that it pretty much all sounds the same (Remember Disco). There are a couple of things that bother me about today first is how 9/11 seems to be fading in people’s memories and I find that very sad. The second is how some people use the memory of that day to promote bigotry and hatred. Sometimes it looks like the Government would like us to forget about 9/11 just like Americans have forgotten about Oklahoma City or the first World Trade Center Bombing. It’s convenient to forget these things or to use them for your own agendas because it hurts to remember. Maybe you wish you had done something like joining the bucket brigade. I know I do. I watched that day on TV and I still can’t believe how those building came down. I can’t imagine how those first responders felt trapped inside as the building came down. And I can’t imagine how those that were on their way watched as the buildings killed their friends. The Government uses this day to tell us this must never happen again and we must be vigilant and report anything we deem suspicious. We must also allow them to listen in on our phone calls and search our Emails. Isn’t this in contrast to what all our soldiers have died for? This day should be about politics or personal agendas this should be a day to morn those who gave their lives. Heroes like those on the flight that gave there live to stop the terrorists from continuing their attack on Washington. I don’t hate Muslims or Arabs I understand that in order for this planet to survive all races and religions must learn to get along or we will be just another extinct animal. There is a huge change going on in the worlds demographics due to the refugees that are showing up. They’re running from wars that to some degree are religious in nature. A lot of this is from the Arab nations Syria, Libya, and many others. These wars accomplish nothing but pain and the destruction of once beautiful countries. Do you remember the Lebanon civil war between the Christians and others? It destroyed what was considered the most beautiful city in the world at the time. It’s amazing how different countries interpret emergencies. In Colombia where I live neighboring Venezuela expelled around two thousand Colombians that were living in the country illegally. Everybody says Maduro is doing it to distract voters in the coming election. Well Colombia’s response is to go to the UN and complain as well as the Organization of American states. This is over two thousand people that have families in Colombia as well as being Colombian citizens. This too is being touted as a political ploy. In Greece people are leaving and refugees are arriving from Africa. All of this will soon change the demographics of the area. I know what I’m about say is logical but for some reason the world won’t do anything. WE NEED TO STOP USING HUMAN BEINGS AS POLITCAL TOYS. Now that sentiment is voiced by religious and political leaders all over the world, but none are willing to stop. This is a very sad Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin Colombia.
CRIME AND PUNISHMENT

Well I think I need to talk about crime and punishment. There’s been a lot written about the inequities of the judicial system based on race. I don’t think it’s based on if your black you’re going to jail and if you’re white you get a light sentence. Think it’s more along the lines of economics. If your poor and are accused of a crime your defense options are very limited because you can’t get the best lawyers. Ask OJ Simpson about that. His attorney Johnny Cochran stated after his trial that if he hadn’t had money to bring in witness’s he would have been convicted in a week. Instead he walked away a free man. I always thought the better way to have handled that would have been at the end of the car chase somebody yells gun and the cops just blow him away. Most states have done away with the death penalty because they feel there is the possibility of a mistake. They would rather spend millions of dollars keeping the man (or woman) in jail for life. Most other countries criminals consider being sentenced to an American jail the same as being sent to a country club. Until the American justice system much like the rest of the government takes wealth out of the equation this sentence from the declaration of independence will never be true. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. OUCH! IS IT WORTH IT?

So I read this article from ESPN about a football player that quit after one year his name was Chris Borland. He didn’t retire because he was hurt or wasn’t starting or was gay. He quit because he was concerned about turning into a vegetable. He was worried that if he kept playing and taking hits to the head and getting concussions that later in life he wouldn’t be able to talk to his kids. He doesn’t hate football just the violence. I love football and watched my brother play at Kings Point Merchant Marine academy. He started playing at Great Neck High School when the helmets were made of cardboard. He tore his knee up and back then you didn’t really come back from that kind of injury. He graduated because he was smart. Athletes are considered a commodity by schools, most aren’t concerned if they graduate or what happens to them after school. Chris Borland has received praise for his courage in giving up a career which would have given him a lot of money. He’s not running around bad mouthing football he just doesn’t want to be a flashpoint for what other people think is wrong with the game. My opinion of football hockey and other rather violent sports is they were never supposed to be gentleman’s games. I do think that it is necessary for better equipment but more importantly health care for the athletes during and after their careers. I have no delusions that because of the money that’s involved a lot will change about how the sport is played. People love to violence you know crashes at motor sport event or the highway for that matter. That violence is fine so long as they can watch and it doesn’t affect them. Parents support their children plying these sports until they suffer some horrendous injury then they become vocal about the inherent dangers that sport presents. I watched a lot of great athletes end their careers on the playing field they knew the risks and accepted them. I don’t think they thought when it was over that they would just be an article in Sports Illustrated. On this point I read an article years ago in that publication about a player for the Washington Redskins that went all threw school including college as a functional illiterate. Meaning he couldn’t read above a second grade level but he sure as hell could play football. His name was Dexter Manley he played from 1981 to 1991 take a moment and Google him. I got to tell you this blogging thing gets harder every time, mostly because I try to have something with a little humor and that’s getting harder all the time. I decided it was necessary to write a little something about Donald Trump. You know the ass hole with the hair. I’ve reached the conclusion that he really doesn’t want to be president he’s just using the campaign to promote his brand. A few days ago his company negotiated a deal to buy a hotel down here in Medellin. Not only that but he’s trying to buy Athletic Nacional a highly successful soccer team once partly owned by Pablo Escobar. It is also located in Medellin a city he has, to my knowledge, never visited. We all know he doesn’t believe in Global warming and has made some of the most publicized disparaging remarks about Latinos and women as well as poor folks. Now here’s the kicker he could win and if that isn’t the funniest thing I’ve heard in years I don’t know what is. What makes it so funny is he doesn’t even want the job. Also can you vision him sitting in the Oval Office screaming into the red phone at Putin saying YOU’RE FIRED? That alone might be worth having that ass hole elected. If there was ever a candidate that could get American to revolt if he was elected it’s him. Even the one percent thinks he’s crazy. I think that if he loses like I hope the US is going to have to rework the election process or risk the end of democracy as we know it. Well if this keeps up I can see Jeff starting to drink again. Once again I had a busy Monday and couldn’t get to the blog also my writing partner Flounder has been under the weather lately. I thought I would write about my pet peeve religion, and then I thought that would just piss a lot of people off. So what should I write about? Well there’s always the old standby politics but it’s gotten to the point that isn’t funny anymore it’s just sad. With the Holidays coming I could always write about stuff cause you know you’re going to get more stuff soon. I could write about family dynamics but we know that would really get me in trouble. We could try sports but that’s more corrupt than politics. How about climate change well if I did that and told you the latest predictions you’d would most likely go and shoot your selves. And that would involve talking about politicians and how uneducated they are compared to the regular idiots in the world. We could discuss the Far East situation but I’m really not suicidal yet. I could talk about my last book and what my new ones going to be about but then I would get depressed. Well I guess there’s really nothing to talk about today so this is Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin, Colombia.
WOULD YOU BE ABLE TO COPE?

I almost forgot it was Monday. You know when you don’t go to work every day looks just like the other one. Here’s an interesting thought, what would you do if the internet and cell service collapsed tomorrow morning? Would you panic run around crying or would you be able to cope. I mean you’d have to go to the library to look things up you would still have your regular phone service but no cable TV. You would have to get up and walk next store if you wanted to see your neighbor no video chat no social networks. Facebook would once again be the local beauty salon or tavern. You’d have to go to the post office and buy stamps the mail your letters. No more instant gratification you think you could handle it. I for one would enjoy watching young people running around without a clue while some of old folks aren’t bothered at all. Young people would have to read a magazine or newspaper to find out what was happening in the world. People would have to talk to people again. No more internet porn well that would be good. No more tweets or instagram photos of Britney or Paris running around without underwear. People would actually have to do something with their lives instead of sitting there using their thumbs to talk. Well while you ponder that I’m going for a walk, remember those. MONDAYS SHOULD BE OUTLAWED

God I hate Monday’s here I ‘am in a good mood celebrating the publication of my new book and I here shit news. I called a friend which I do every month or so to find out what’s up. He doesn’t have a computer or smart phone so the only way I get to know anything is to call him up. Well there’s no answer, no big deal I figured I jest screwed up the time differential and I’ll catch him the next day. Well that didn’t happen instead I get an email from a mutual friend telling me our friend is in the hospital with Cancer of the foot and they might have to amputate. I called his cell phone and got to talk to him and his spirits seem ok he just wants out of the hospital. So I go to check out Facebook and find out another one of my friends father passed away. And you want to know why I hate Mondays. They’re bad enough without all this bad news stuff. Well I decided to go take a nap before anymore bad stuff happens.
