ShowViral_donald-trump-wants-to-control-the-country_299812I got to tell you this blogging thing gets harder every time, mostly because I try to have something with a little humor and that’s getting harder all the time. I decided it was necessary to write a little something about Donald Trump. You know the ass hole with the hair. I’ve reached the conclusion that he really doesn’t want to be president he’s just using the campaign to promote his brand. A few days ago his company negotiated a deal to buy a hotel down here in Medellin. Not only that but he’s trying to buy Athletic Nacional a highly successful soccer team once partly owned by Pablo Escobar. It is also located in Medellin a city he has, to my knowledge, never visited. We all know he doesn’t believe in Global warming and has made some of the most publicized disparaging remarks about Latinos and women as well as poor folks. Now here’s the kicker he could win and if that isn’t the funniest thing I’ve heard in years I don’t know what is. What makes it so funny is he doesn’t even want the job. Also can you vision him sitting in the Oval Office screaming into the red phone at Putin saying YOU’RE FIRED? That alone might be worth having that ass hole elected. If there was ever a candidate that could get American to revolt if he was elected it’s him. Even the one percent thinks he’s crazy. I think that if he loses like I hope the US is going to have to rework the election process or risk the end of democracy as we know it. Well if this keeps up I can see Jeff starting to drink again. In the mean time this is Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin, Colombia.

2030-2039wOceanLabelsIt’s the Monday after Eater and I hope all of you enjoyed the holiday. Now let’s get down to business I think a lot of remember a post or two I’ve written involving drinking water and climate change. Well with people coming out to run for president these topics become more important. You can tell because candidates or prospective ones are trying to avoid the subject. I think it’s necessary to look at California’s four year drought and how that will impact the rest of the country. People in this country take fresh water and plentiful food for granted. Jeff and I live in Colombia and we’re lucky because Medellin has some of the best water we’ve ever tasted. But that can’t be said for other parts of the country. Just like in the US when there is a drought on the East Coast and restrictions are applied the one who get fined are the home owners not the big corporate campuses that have sprinklers running in the rain. California has an excuse when it applies more stringent restrictions to home owners its economy is an agriculture one. But they still have Coco Cola bottling water and shipping it out of state. If we are to blame this on Climate Change then thing like Florida being underwater in thirty years is not somebody’s day dream but a fact. Even without Climate change the prospect for there to be enough fresh drinking water for the world in thirty years is not a good one. We have too many people and as the world becomes more modern there’s is more waste and pollution. Nobody wants to believe that all this will end someday and if they do they just say well it won’t in my lifetime. I told you we live in Medellin and have great water but it’s a delicate thing a mud slide here or old pipe there and no water for a month or two or more. Religions keep the population growing and I see that trend only getting worse. I hate to tell you this but as of right now I have little faith that without something drastic happening humans might not survive the next hundred years. My solutions such as population control are shared by others with much higher IQ’s than I but no one wants to believe. Well that pretty much took joy out of the day this is Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin, Colombia.

Colombia Building Collapse

378760_9248_1Yesterday they imploded a building in Medellin that had suffered a partial collapse a month or so ago. If you look at the two pictures above you’ll TOP see before the implosion and BELOW after the implosion. The city and the company that did it are claiming success but Jeff points to the pictures and feels that all they succeeded in doing was creating an even more unsafe condition. Now Jeff may know a lot about explosives but he’s not a structural engineer but it’s his belief they screwed up in the interest of trying to save the rest of the building. Now there isn’t enough money in the world to make Jeff want to live in that building but Colombians are obviously of a different opinion. It was undecided as to the cause of the original collapse but from the photos and new coverage if it wasn’t geological it was from faulty concrete. Neither of those reasons seems to be what the authorities want say. If they do then someone made a mistake and other buildings could be in danger in fact they have found others in the country. Maybe they’re having the same problem those plaques large cities in America dishonest building inspectors. Another thought might be that the way buildings are built down here maybe they should limit the height to twelve stories. It could be the taller buildings can’t handle the stress of high winds. Well whatever the case may be they need to figure it out soon before a lot of people die. This is Flounder (on the tenth floor)saying CIAO from Medellin Colombia.

imagesThe Metro the rail line in Medellin which handles thousands of rider’s everyday has had to suspend its service to six stations due to a collapse of the river bank past Poplano. This brings up concerns for two reasons since an apartment building had recently experienced a partial collapse in the same area. My first concern is, are they doing sufficient geological studies before they build. In other words is it possible the area is geologically unsafe. My second concern is very real in that I don’t believe they do enough maintenance on their infrastructure. It appears to me especially after seeing pictures of the apartment building that they react instead of preventing problems. They seem to be surprised when part of a road gets wiped out by a landslide when things of that nature can be predicted to a certain extent. If you’ve ever visited this country you know that the roads thru the mountains while offering breathtaking scenery are dangerous to drive. Getting back to the Metro a lot of it runs alongside the river and you can see erosion of the concrete banks in many areas. Water is an extremely powerful element that you humans are constantly underestimating. Well time will tell if they improve their care of the infrastructure or if they continue to wait until something happens. Fortunately at least in Medellin there have not been a lot of deaths or injuries reported as a result of these failures. Whew that was a long post for me my paws are tired so this is Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin.
