Here’s another example of limited attention spans Jeff had to look threw 60 news stories before he found on the Shooting at the Navel Yard yesterday in which 13 people died. It seems turtles in Israel and Brittany Spears are more important to people. I find that so disturbing on so many levels that I wonder if there is any hope for you humans. This is a thoroughly dazed Flounder saying CIAO from Colombia.

Hi most of you that read yesterdays post probably don’t even remember the title that’s what today blog is about, our attention span. Just look at the news last week everybody was worried about the loss of life in the Colorado floods now it the loss of tourism. Even though people are still missing and homes have been lost people are worried about tourists. Don’t worry’ they’ll come people not only have short attention spans but a morbid curiosity as well. Jeff and I both think that this is the reason governments and big business get to screw over people without worrying someone will call for a revolution and even if someone did most people wouldn’t know what they were talking about. I guess it might be a copping mechanism so that we don’t keep having nightmares about nine eleven or other horrific events in our lives but remember what I said the other day those that don’t remember history are condemned to repeat it. I don’t think my blogs will change the world or even one person but at least it can be said that I tried. This Flounder, and don’t forget I’m just a cat, saying CIAO from Medellin

Great way to start the week in the us floods in Colorado 12 people dead I a shooting in Washing DC at the Naval Yard. I want to see how the gun people handles this one weren’t there enough guns there. They’ll probably say no or that the people weren’t trained and that they need more armed guards on the base. Maybe some razor wire machine gun towers bars on the windows OH wait a minute that’s a prison not a civilian work place. If the gun people can come up with anything rational I’d be willing to listen, but knowing them the way I do I don’t think there answers will make any since. Like everybody in the building should carry a gun. The problem with that is the minute a gun goes off untrained people with guns become danger to themselves, don’t bother telling me that they should all have to go thru firearms training once a month. Ask any soldier that’s been under fire they can train you and train you but when somebody is shooting at you it’s a whole different ballgame. I hope the shoot these guys and I hope the injured recover I also hope the families of the dead can recover. One thing you know for sure there will be lawyers calling the victims’ families telling them it was the governments fault and they need to make them pay. The only ones who make money in these types of things are the lawyers. This is a very sad Flounder saying CIAO from Colombia.

Yesterday Nacional and Medellin played a soccer game and Nacional won for the first time in like 5 attempts. John Ruby’s son fan of Nacional called Jeff and of course gloated, he is a big fan when there winning but when they lose he says he’s giving up soccer. Today is also Valentine’s Day in Colombia and ruby’s ex-husbands birthday Louis is a good man and a friend. I hope John appreciates the fact that I gave his team credit for the win he may not see it again for awhile. Now it’s time to watch some American Football. This is a story that I think represents what’s wrong with the world today. The young lady pictured above is named Andrea Sloan and she has stage 3 ovarian cancer in other words she’s dying. Her doctors have told the 45 year old woman to put her affairs in order they were telling her not to give up but she should be ready for the worst. Now for the hard part there is a drug out there that might be able to help her it’s called BMN-673 it is being developed by a company named BioMarin and it might just save her life. The catch is it isn’t approved by the FDA yet although they did say she was eligible for the drug on “Compassionate use” the problem is the drug company y won’t let her have it. She and her doctor have begged the company to let her have and the answer is always no. The following is a quote from BioMarin statement as to why “We empathize with anyone effacing a terminal illness. As a company, we strongly support pre- approval expanded access programs. We implement these programs when we have sufficient completion of a well- controlled trial…BMN673 is not sufficiently far along in the development process to implement expanded access in ovarian cancer…Although we have publically reported that the initial data is promising, we do not have sufficient evidence that the compound is safe and effective.” Now I might applaud the fact that their trying to be careful if I thought that was their only motive. Being a cynical cat I think they’re afraid that Andrea might still die and their drug would be blamed and they would lose a fortune even though she has publicly stated she wouldn’t hold the company liable all she’s asking for is a chance to live. That in a nut shell is what’s wrong with the world money has become more important than compassion or just doing what’s right. This is a thoroughly disgusted Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin.

Has anybody noticed that it seems to be raining a little more than is usual for this time of year? Jeff thinks so his niece has had her backyard and basement hit by a flash flood in Colorado. I always thought that sort of happened in the Spring with snow melt not in the Fall. You I keep trying to tell you humans you can’t keep pissing off Mother Nature or she’s going to kick your ass. Most people aren’t even aware of changes to the climate or weather patterns because they spend their lives in a controlled environment only venturing out to go the store or seek another inside venue. If they should go out to the beach or country they still won’t notice the changes even if they suffer from storm damage. They will write it off as a temporary thing and continue on with their lives being ignorant of the fact that Mother Nature is getting ready to dump on them. Politicians and some anti factual people refuse to believe scientists when they say the planet is warming and thing are going to get bad. People in the Northeast say great maybe the winter won’t be that cold. But wait when you see the ocean outside your window and you live in Harrisburg Pennsylvania it will be too late to say hey maybe those guys were right after all. Today is the 12th anniversary of 911and the sad thing is people are beginning to forget. The same thing happened after Pearl Harbor and the Oklahoma bombing. I guess it’s a coping thing or Americans are so caught up with other things that they forget the most important events of their times. When Jeff graduated High School he could sit down and talk about WW2 and even the Civil War he knew what people said about the cause and effect of both. He remembers how people would come out on Armistice Day and fly flags to show they remembered. Do you remember how after 911 everybody flew flags? There was even a guy in Parsippany who but the letters USA on his roof daring a terrorist to attack his home. Those lights have been down for awhile now so have a lot of the Flags. People are beginning to forget and get on with their lives. Forgetting or putting it to the back of your mind not only leaves us open to a repeat, but it diminishes the live of those who died. Maybe if we had put all out resources into Afghanistan and hadn’t taken ten years to kill Ben Ladin or had brought him back to stand trial for crimes against humanity we would still remember. Now we remember once a year for a few minutes and then it’s on to work or whatever. I forget the person who said and I think it goes something like this those who don’t learn from histories mistakes are bound to repeat them. That’s probably not right but you get the gist people are always saying we’re forgetting the Korean War or the Viet Nam Vets. Unfortunately Jeff has lived thru all of this he remembers News Reels about Korea TV reports about Viet Nam and all the other little and big wars we have been involved in since the so called War to end all Wars. He remembers as a kid being afraid when a birds shadow came across the playground and kids did the fall and cover thing. Fortunately those days are over for today’s kids they only have to worry about the kid next to them in class pulling out a Glock and shooting them. It’s Monday and the NFL season has begun as has the new TV season. The football games were good but long a pro football game is made up of 4 quarters each 15 min in duration, a 20 min. halftime, and 6 timeouts. Now baring a major injury the games shouldn’t take more than an hour and a half not so. The game started at one o’clock and finished at 4:15 3 hours and 15 min. thanks to TV their ruining the game by removing the continuity of the game. Soccer can be a very dull game until you get used to it but the good thing is no timeout TV or otherwise commercials run in a small picture in picture or on a banner at the bottom of the screen. As for tht new TV season its funny how somebody will have a successful show and then next year there will be three or four show very similar in nature. They tell you success follows success but I think there aren’t any people willing to take a chance on their imagination. Jeff loves this time of year down here because you have world cup soccer qualifying, championship soccer league games, NFL, baseball including playoffs and World Series, the NBA starting up, and the soccer league games. If you love sports there is no better time. This is Sport hating Flounder saying CIAO from Colombia.

See that guy smiling at the top of the page just goes to show you how delusional politicians can be. President Santos currently has a 21% approval rating and I’m guessing their member of his political party or close relatives. His remarks about there being no national protests and everything was normal reminded me of another politician who uttered some really stupid word “Read my lips no more taxes). If his opponents (assuming he tries to get reelected) don’t use his word against him then their dumber than he is. Politicians never cease to amaze me with their arrogance and how they think the electorate is so stupid that they have no idea what’s going on and these guys (politicians) think they can just keep on doing dumb stuff that makes them rich and the rest poor. Santos is also trying to make peace with the Farc. I have no idea and I don’t think anybody outside the negotiations has any idea what he might be giving to the rebels. It is fairly sure that the people want peace but they also want these guys punished for what they’ve done. Most of the population has or knows somebody that has suffered from this long war but Peace just for the sake of Peace is not something the people will accept. But President Santos is completely invested in this process and if it fails not only will he not be reelected but probably won’t be able to live in Colombia. What the difference between black and white what makes people think that one race is better than another. Look what happened in America there were people living here enjoying life worshiping nature and then the Europeans arrived and decided what they thought and worshiped was better and the natives needed to think the same way. The Indians as they became known didn’t think destroying their way of life and building houses and destroying natures balance was a good thing. Well the Europeans new they were right so they pushed the Indians off their land and when the Indians got upset the settlers starting killing them, some of these tribes were completely wiped out. What made the settlers way of life better the Indians had few diseases little conflict no overcrowding so what made them wrong. Throughout the world you see this somebody decides their right and the rest are wrong and they try by any means to change their minds and the result is conflict. Who decided white was a better color then black or red. Who decided god had to be either Anglo Saxon white or Arab. You’ve heard the expression why can’t we all just get along? Well if we can stop thinking we’re right and everyone else is wrong and we stop to listen to other people and treat their opinions with respect. We’ll have these conflicts and in the end I’m afraid we’re going to find out no one was right but everybody was wrong. This is Professor Flounder saying CIAO from Colombia.
