ELECTION IS OVER
June 16, 2014
Well Sunday was Election Day in Colombia and Santos won reelection promising peace. Ok so he gets peace with the rebels but at what cost the rebels who have been schooled politically by Russia in Marxism were being beaten badly in the so called war suffering heavy losses and finding it difficult to replace those that were lost. Now they are negotiating as if they had won and are saying they won’t settle if they have to pay for crimes committed. They want to be able to run for political offices in 2015. So you say what’s so bad about that there turning to politics instead of guns. Well take a look at Colombia and see what the Government has actually done for the average person and what do you see, the same poverty, the same inequities, the same problems with health care, and the same problems with drugs. Now you have people running for office that will preach equality of wealth that the resources of the country should belong to Colombians and not outside companies and even though I believe there should be more Colombian control of its natural resources I look at Cuba and Venezuela and see that it really doesn’t work. If you want to know what’s going to happen in the future of your country wait and see if Santos or one of his supporters asks for a constitutional amendment to allow Santos to run as many time as he wants. Watch and see the attacks on his opposition in the press and actual physical attacks. I believe concessions by the government in the peace talks were unnecessary and dangerous. I hope as time goes on I’m wrong about this I like living here this is Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin Colombia.
WERE BACK
June 13, 2014
Well it wasn’t the best two days of Jeff’s life but he’s here despite have a colonoscopy without being sedated. Yup that’s right he was awake for the whole thing and I’ve had to listen to him complain about it for two days now. Enough is enough time to move on and speaking of moving on the World cup started yesterday in Brazil amidst controversy. Brazil played Croatia in the first game and one but started a shit storm of complaints about the referee from the losers and I think they’re right. They also had the opening ceremony yesterday and most people are still going around asking what the hell that was about. I don’t how much people had to pay for that but I’m surprised there wasn’t a riot when it was over. The protests were outside the stadiums and the police fought hard to keep them away. If you’ve never checked out Brazil you should it a beautiful country a corrupt country but beautiful. It has some of the largest and most dangerous slums in the world and the way Brazil handled this was to send in troops and bulldozers so the tourist’s wouldn’t see. Colombia TV channels sent there top news people to Brazil for the games but instead of reporting on what was going on behind the scene they did a lot of puff stories. Not only that, but Colombia is in the middle of an election that will have a lasting effect on the country and there more interested in games. Now I know why the countries down here are so corrupt there is no interest in government so long as they leave the people alone. OH oh Jeff just woke up and I can hear him staring to complain already so I’ll say this is Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin Colombia.
HERE AND THERE
June 10, 2014
Well there was no post yesterday and there won’t be one tomorrow or Thursday either. Tomorrow Jeff has a colonoscopy and Thursday they finish his root canal. I have to tell you it gets harder everyday to write this blog on a daily basis and to appeal to everyone we know. So we might go back to book reviews and entertain posts as well as butting up quotes from our favorite people such as George Carlin. We will still write about stuff that piss’s us off and when we do that remember we don’t really care if you want to hear it or not it’s therapy for us. Photos will have little to do with the posts from now on they’ll be of stuff we like. Now if any of you have a topic you’d like us to look into put in the comment section and we will do our best to do a post. This is Flounder not looking forward to Jeff’s colonoscopy prep today saying CIAO from Medellin, Colombia.
REMEMBER
June 6, 2014
Today is the seventieth anniversary of the Longest Day June 6, 1944, better remembered as D-DAY. On this day the world began its biggest battle against a common enemy Adolph Hitler. There were others on his side Italy and Japan but Italy soon joined the allies in their desire to free the world of Hitler. Old Adolph has been referred to as the Anti Christ but I prefer to think of him as one crazy sun of a bitch. He might have succeeded in his quest for world domination if his ego and insanity had caused him to make tactical errors in military decisions. But this day showed what could be accomplished when the world got together against a common enemy. The world has many common enemies today the biggest two being overpopulation and Global warming both of which affect the whole planet but because of greed and its accompanying desire to be the ones sin charge they can’t produce the same unity as they showed in 1944. Maybe we need an Alien invasion like Orson Wells War of the Worlds to bring us together. I would hope it would be looking back and remembering the thousands of lives lost so that we could be the idiots we are today. This is a very Humble Flounder saying Thank You to all those who died so that we may experience the freedom we have today and it is my hope that we try to make sure that they didn’t die in vain CIAO from Medellin, Colombia.
COMMENTARY
June 5, 2014
Let me ask the people of Colombia a question how many of you are directly affected by the “war”. If you’re not in the police or army I don’t think this war really bothers you other than it’s been going on for a long time. When it ends what do you think will change? Not much, I’d wager there will still be poverty and crime the drug trafficking won’t stop and if Santos stops the draft there will be more unemployed. The talk of peace detracts from what’s wrong in this country. Now don’t get me wrong I think peace is a good idea but when you’re using it as just another way to sell out the people it won’t last very long. I’m not a world leader, nor do I wish to be one, I’m a cat that enjoys the warm weather and beautiful scenery. My problem is that the two leading presidential candidates have no desire to help the people bot rather only to exploit them. Politics gives me a headache and indigestion so I’m going back to bed. THINGS AREN’T ALWAYS WHAT THEY SEEM
June 4, 2014
When you go to the store are you aware of the ways you’ve been influenced in your choices? Most people aren’t or at least think they aren’t. Jeff wrote papers in college on advertising but most people think of it as ads on TV or billboards. When you go to the store and you buy something on sale you’re probably not getting the deal you think you are. As an example Jeff was in the super market on Sunday and they wanted to buy some Oatmeal Ruby picked up the usual brand and it was 3 for 10,000 pesos. She said this is a good deal but Jeff said look at the size they’re smaller than what we usually get and combined they don’t weigh as much as the package we always get. So in reality we were paying more for less even though we were getting 3 packages. This is one very common way of getting you to spend more money. Another is to advertise 50% off of list price. Well nobody sells anything at full list price so unless you know what the store sells the product for everyday you have no idea if you’re getting a great deal or not, the odds say you’re not. The odd say you’re paying more than you did the last time you bought the product. Now what makes things like this possible is that most shoppers don’t have the time to check prices and are just glad the item isn’t out of stock. But if you do watch your money you’ll notice that from week to week you grocery bill will fluctuate and you’ll think your saving money when you’re not. The same situations apply to clothes and other items even cars and other large ticket items. So take your time don’t rush and you will end up saving money. TALENT vs SEXUALITY
June 3, 2014
Have you noticed that sexuality is replacing talent in the music industry? Well I have there’s Shakira, Rihanna, and Miley to just mention a few. The problem I have with these women is that they actually have talent but would rather sell sex than use that talent. I don’t think when young people or older people think about a song of Shakira’s is playing in a club are going man the word just make me want to cry. No I think they’re thinking more along the lines of man I can see those hips grinding now and the same goes for the other two. But one thing will happen soon they will get older and no matter how hard they shake it there will be somebody younger and hotter out there shaking it better. So what happens then? Well they could ware skimpier costumes date younger men or could start using all that talent they have and make music that people will actually listen to. You remember Miley and her Twerking well people started to copy her. Down here it was a very talented artist named Fanny Lu who even styled her hair and costumes after Miley and truth be told she doesn’t have to with the voice that she has. I don’t expect this post to change anything I just thought I’d mention it. This is Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin, Colombia
WHAT IS HISTORY?
June 2, 2014
Well Jeff is finally feeling better after about with the old common cold so here we go beginning the month of June. I thought we’d look at history everybody knows what history is it just happened a second ago. Everybody collects something from history some people do it for a living others do it and don’t even know that’s what they’re doing. A little kid at the beach picks up a shell, that’s collecting history because it was once alive. Children are always collecting history sometime it looks like dirt but it wasn’t always there so it’s history. Scientists collect bones and soil so they can try to figure out what live or grew here years ago. You save pictures of meaningful events in your life you call them fond memories I call it history. Soldiers carry scars of wounds they received in battle they call them night mares I call it history. We may call it a lot of different things but it’s still just history to me. News people and writers would have you believe that only things that are major events in the world should be referred to as history. Not so say I: If you’re a mother and don’t think of the birth of your child as a historical event in your life than I feel sorry for you. Graduating high school or college or getting that job you wanted these are historical events in your life not just simple memories. So when you out tomorrow pick up a pebble and put it in your pocket and then you can say you’ve got a piece of history in your pocket. This Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin, Colombia.
