OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThey went to the zoo yesterday and Jeff took over 200 pictures, he becomes a maniac when he has a camera in his hands. The best one I think are the ones of the butterflies we don’t have enough room to put them all up here and most of you have Facebook so I’m going to select a few good ones to pos there from time to time. Colombia tied Argentina on Friday and that was a pretty big deal. With all the other soccer leagues and American sports winding down Colombian soccer takes center stage down here. I’m just going to post the picture and come back later to see if any thing has happened in the world this is Flounder saying CAIO from Colombia.

DENIAL OF SERVICE

June 7, 2013

zombie-computer-3dWell I’m back have you noticed how many posts I start with the word well? I guess I’ve become a creature of habit anyhow I thought I’d try and explain a denial of service attack since they’re becoming more and more frequent. Most of the more recent attacks have been aimed at banks but sometimes they just try to shut down the internet. For them to do this first they have to set up a zombie computers which are computers which without you knowing they have taken control of. Then they find other s that they can use to relay commands which intern target a server such as Microsoft they then bombard with requests for information from all the other computers they control. The object is to trick the target computer into thinking all these requests are real and then make it so busy that it will slow down or crash. If you’ve gone to your personal banking or email provider and found that they’re very slow or you can’t get access because they’re busy it more than likely is a denial of service attack. That’s why you need security software that will prevent malware from being loaded into your computer as well as Trojan style viruses. Now that everyone is completely afraid of their computer and the internet I will say this Flounder once again saying CIAO from Medellin

iiiWell I couldn’t get access to Word press yesterday and couldn’t figure out what was wrong. I couldn’t even get to them to ask them what was happening I know it wasn’t on my end because I ran every diagnostic test I could. It seems it might have been a denial of service attack by some hacking group. Those guys are really starting to piss me off I guess when you’re that much of a geek you like to show off. Colombia plays Argentina today in soccer so nothing will be going on once the game starts and should Colombia win it will probably get very noisy around here. Jeff told Ruby to invite Hader to come watch the game John has something else to do and it’s important to him so he won’t be here. I going to try and post this now if everything is ok I’ll be back later with some more BS this is Flounder saying CIAO from Colombia

BLOG

June 5, 2013

bloggingJeff and I started this blog to sort of document what went on in my life in Colombia but after a while we started writing about whatever. It became more about just letting people know we were alive and well. We cover everything and that’s what blogging is all about it’s a way for us to express ourselves to other people either anonymously or under our name. Some people blog in the hope of gaining wealth some like reporters do it to continue their career after the news paper or magazine they were working at shutdown. Jeff thinks everybody blogs to some degree they post on social media constantly telling what they’re doing or seeing. They love the fact that they have followers it give their lives some meaning or something. Jeff knows someone on Facebook that has 1429 friends he asked him did he know all these people he was letting into his life and the answer was no. Well Jeff said if you don’t know all of them where did they come from oh they were friends of friends and its cool. Jeff said well I hope you trust all of them because you might as well write a blog about yourself because everything you post goes to all of them. Jeff and I are pretty careful about what we say about our families and friends but not about what we think. That’s the good thing about a Blog its away to vent you

PRIVACY YEAH RIGHT

June 4, 2013

2c832305a750ee8f71a8aa839bd4af9aI know I’ve written about internet privacy before but I’m going to do it again. Jeff uses yahoo mail for his email account but he just read where Yahoo is now scanning your e-mail for information so it can sell your preferences to advertisers as well as place their own ads and add to your spam. Now you can opt out of the ads but you can’t stop the scanning. Jeff has looked around for an easy replacement and has decided on Gmail from Google so in the next few days he will be changing his and mine email addresses. It’s not something he’s looking forward too because there are a lot of people and companies he has to notify. Hopefully he won’t forget any. He thinks Yahoo counts on this to stop a lot of people from leaving as does Facebook does the same thing when you want to cancel. They hope that you will see how much work it is and just leave the accounts open even if you use some other social page or e-mail account. But there are a lot of people like Jeff who just get pissed and will take the time and the energy to make changes. So look for the articles about the new Yahoo email practices and see if you can live with them. It will be a day or two before Jeff starts making the change over since he needs to set aside a block of time to do this. I will keep you advised as to when he makes the change and he’ll send at an e-mail just before he shuts down his yahoo account. In the mean time this is Flounder saying CIAO and Peace Out from Medellin.

TamalMonday is here and for all you lucky people in America it’s time to go to work while we enjoy the end of a long weekend in Colombia. If there’s one thing Colombians excel at it having holidays they average one every 17 days or so. That’s what makes them the 3rd or 5th happiest people in the world (no 1 is Norway). This just one more reason American are moving down here although more on the coast than in Medellin, it would seem people still think Cartels and the Farc are running around kidnapping people and setting bombs of. Now don’t get me wrong some of that stuff still goes on but not in Medellin, but like every other country in the world when the sun goes down the bad people come out. Anyhow getting back on track for some reason this holiday was very quiet, usually when it’s a holiday it’s an excuse for people to party and get drunk however this one was very quiet and believe me I’m not complaining. People in Colombia work hard and play hard but they keep it in balance they go out and get drunk the night before but they’ll be at work the next day and have a smile on their face. Well I best get going you guys should really consider visiting Colombia in the mean time this Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin.

GIVE ME A BREAK

June 2, 2013

ahhhhhhhhh-so-many-birthdaysOk I think they’re entirely too many birthdays at the end of May and the beginning of June. We have Ruby on the 28th her sister Nelida on the 31st as well as her son Hader. Then we have Nacho on June 2nd and of course the most important on of all MINE. Now usually I go on a weeklong catnip binge but this year I sort of chilled and figured I’ll save all my partying for the holiday season. I’m not as young as I used to be so I have to sort of pace myself these days. I talked to the Siamese cat next door and we’re in agreement. Our humans always make fools of themselves around the holidays and we don’t get any sleep anyhow so we might as well just party out. But I’ll tell you this Jeff better get me a present this week or there will be hell to pay in this house. Last night they went out to dinner at Nachos so I was able to get some more sleep when they’re here they talk watch TV and when they sleep they both snore loud enough to wake the dead. Well that’s it for today this is Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin.
