Happy-Holidays1600-613846Sorry didn’t get the outdoor pictures last night will work on it for tonight. When you think of the holiday season do you want to spend at home or do you want to go away someplace? I guess the answer would depend how close you are to your family and where they are in relation to you as far as travelling is concerned. I spent on e Christmas in California one and I have to tell you they decorate outside more than the east coast. It almost looks like they’re trying to compete with Disney land. I prefer to spend Christ at home and do as little traveling as possible but down here it’s a party week not just day so we’re always having people stop by or were going to some ones house. But seeing as I’m the resident cat I get to lay around the house and do nothing. I do get to wake Ruby in the morning and she’s usually not to happy about it but she doesn’t bother me she takes out on Jeff LOL. Well like I said we keep the posts short at this time of year so this in Flounder (glad I’m a cat) saying CIAO from Colombia

TIS THAT TIME

December 4, 2013

indexWell it’s the Christmas season and every year at this time we like to keep our stories a little on the lite side and stay away from politics and crime. Later in the month we’ll b reprinting some Christmas stories and poems maybe recommending some music just generally trying to keep a happy mode now if it would only stop raining thing would be perfect. Hers what our train layout looks like this year and we’re going to try and get some picture of the outside of our building IF and it’s a big IF the rain will stop long enough. You can expect the post to be short unless it a reprint so for now this is Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin Colombia.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

MORALTY THE GREAT QUESTION

December 3, 2013

6a0133f0b2fdc2970b0147e2ff8afe970bJeff and I are continually surprised by the internet’s comments on what a particular celebrity is wearing and how conservative or outrageous it is. You also have the comments that will too much cleavage or the skirt is too short or her shoes are awful. The surprising thing is most if not all these comment are aimed at women and are made by women. Now we live in a country where if a young woman goes out wearing shorts and her ass cheeks aren’t showing the shorts are too long it is also a country where women are killed or attacked at an alarming rate. Now we don’t know this for sure but we think the emergence of women in politics and the work place is threatening to the machismo of the Latin man. We don’t think a strict dress code or a forced morality will change anything about the attitude of men toward women. Believe it or not many men become Muslims because of the subservient roll women have in that culture. Now America is a funny place when it comes to morality it usually depends on who you’re listening too, but like other countries crimes against women go largely unreported. This is because if a woman dresses a certain way she is asking to be harassed or attacked sexually. We think this is bullshit; do some women make mistake in their choice of a date? Yes! But that doesn’t mean she should be held responsible for an attack on her. When women go to report this especially down here they are made to feel guilty and they should just go home and clean the house. Spousal abuse is very common down here and it can be against the husband as well as the wife. This is a Catholic country where the church supports the man in cases of marital abuse. I don’t have any answers to these questions of morality I only have opinions. These opinions are that women shouldn’t have to worry about what they ware but they should be careful of the places they go. Remember the celebrities that you see walking around in very sexy clothes or what some people would call half naked are protected by security personal. They don’t show up in most photos but try to grab one and see what happens. Here’s wishing that things change so women can be themselves the same way men can without worrying about what others will think or do. This is a very liberal Flounder, saying let everybody go naked probably would be less conflict in the world, CIAO from Colombia.

Monday Monday

December 2, 2013

garfield_monday1It’s Monday and you know how they have different meanings to everyone. To Jeff’s wife Ruby it means she’s going to be babysitting Hari. For me and Jeff it’s just another day of book writing and Blogging. For a good part of the world it means back to work and for some back to the search for work. This Monday is also called Cyber Monday it’s the biggest electronic shopping day of the year. Companies like Amazon and other similar stores all over the world sit back and count the money. Now you cna get some good deals today but only if you can get free shipping or have the option of picking it up at the store. But like any other sale day you have to know what the item originally sold for so you can tell if you’re getting a good deal or not. You really have to watch the sales that say a percentage off like 30% these discounts or off the full retail price meaning you might be paying more than you could have yesterday. I’ve seen prices change on amazon and other sights as I’m looking at the item. This happens because they have a demand for the product and as they get less in stock the price goes up. Well it look like we wandered away from the original topic which was Monday as I said it means different things to different people but we think it’s just another day and you what for a whole lot of people in Colombia that’s just what it is. If they work in a little shop or restaurant it’s a seven day work week or if they’re lucky a six day work week. When you live in the US you can get spoiled working those five day work weeks and of course people complain about that because they can’t have off on Saturday and Sunday. So if you’re going to work today you have our sympathy we’ll be sure to think of you as we roll over on the couch. This a happily retired Jeff and Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin Colombia.

QUIET NIGHT

December 1, 2013

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAs a rule Jeff and I don’t post on Sunday but we thought because the Christmas season started last night we might share a little with you guys. First Jeff and Ruby went shopping yesterday Nov30 and the two big department stores in the area the Exito and the Metro were just about out of Christmas decorations. Which considering they began to put them out in September it really is no surprise they’re gone although it’s much earlier than last year. Next we have the fireworks and parties that usually mark mid night on the 30th. Well there were some but not as many as last year and it was over by 1am there were no loud parties in the area. I don’t know whether this trend will continue through the rest of the Holliday season or not. It might be because of all the rain we’ve had and are having right now. I wasn’t at all disappointed with the quiet night since I really don’t like fire works or really loud music. Well that all I wanted to say this is Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin.
