weekend
August 17, 2012
The picture that accompanies this post has absolutely nothing to do with it except that if you remember it from TV your old like Jeff. It’s Friday and the weekend is here, but like I’ve said before for Jeff and me it’s no big deal. There’s nothing going on other than John’s moving and Jeff and Ruby have to go shopping. It rained for eight straight hours last night and it looks like it might start again today. It took exactly 30min for everything to dry out and look like it never rained. They cut the grass so close on the lawn in the park across the street from our house that no matter how much rain you get it still looks burned. Jeff is going to attempt to hang his dart board today but I don’t know whether he’ll be able to penetrate the walls they’re a mixture of stone and concrete with re-bar enforcement(re-bar are steel rods inserted into the concrete to help reinforce it). But I’ll tell you this it’s always fun to watch him try and then start yelling and cursing, it just breaks me up. Did I tell you about the swallows or fly catchers we have down here? They sit on the wires strung across the area and when the sun erases the early morning haze they start feeding. They swoop very close to the building so Jeff has to make sure I don’t get out on the balcony or I’m liable to jump (I can’t help it I’m a cat) but they’re fun to watch and once in awhile they’ll land on the rail and talk to for awhile. The buzzards on the other hand keep flying by with this really hungry look in their eyes; no way have I wanted to be outside when they’re around. Well time for a nap we’ll talk to you tomorrow sometime CIAO
Here comes the rain
August 16, 2012
So I’m late sue me anyhow today started out nice, after a lot of rain last night, but now it looks like it might rain again. The US beat Mexico in soccer in Mexico they say it’s the first time that has happened in 75 years, it didn’t count for nothing so who cares. John is moving Saturday now and me being a cat you know I don’t care except maybe Hari will come over to play. It doesn’t look like anything is going to go on this weekend which is cool with me I like having Ruby and Jeff to myself, but if it runs true to form that isn’t the way it will work out. I’ve read about this drought up in the US and I got to tell you it doesn’t look good for the farm economy or the rest of the economy for that matter. I don’t think the Us is as a great an influence on what happens in the rest of the world as it is effected by the rest of the world. Good news Taco for dinner tonight that means Ruby doesn’t have to cook and she can sit and watch TV with me, I really love her. Well once again I’ve run out of stuff to talk about see you next time CIAO.
Hump Day
August 15, 2012
Here’ssss Wednesday did you ever think why they call it hump day? If you look at the beginning of the week as a hill to climb when you get to Wednesday your at the summit and about to start down toward the weekend hence Wednesday is called hump day. Go ahead try to prove that’s wrong I dare you LOL. Speaking of the weekend it looks like it might be a quiet one although I’m sure something will pop up to screw that idea up. I just noticed there’s a statue on top of the mountain behind our apartment I asked Ruby if we can up to see it and she says it’s pretty hard to get to and I’m thinking well they built it up there so hard can it be? I guess I’ll just have to wait and see if Jeff can get Ruby to have one of the boys drive them there, I don’t see any roads on this side of the mountain but they could be blocked by trees. I think their probably scary that’s why Ruby is saying it hard to get there. John and Vanessa are supposed to move up here tomorrow which will be good Ruby won’t have to commute so far every day, now it will just be a stroll up the mountain LOL. OK that’s it from here for the day see you tomorrow CIAO.
Just another Sunrise
August 14, 2012
It rained last night and we lost power as did most of the area, it was pretty strange watching it go dark block by block. I wasn’t sure if this was weather related or something else, sense the Farc has been targeting power line towers in the south, but the power was back when I woke up so all is well in the land. I enclosed some pics of the sunrise just to make everyone jealous, no on sleeps late down here and this is part of the reason. Hope everyone really paid attention to yesterday’s post I’m not given to rants like Jeff but felt there were a couple of things that needed to be said. If your American and you plan on visiting Colombia there are a couple f things you should know 1, if your over six foot one you won’t find a bed long enough for you 2, you’ll bang your head everywhere 3, the chairs will seem too low to the ground and you knees will be in your chest 4, people drive like they have a death wish and finally the drivers will aim for you if your crossing the street. Now those are the minor bad thing you’ll encounter the good things1, for the most part it’s pretty quiet at night, 2, the people are extremely nice, 3, and you’ll get plenty of exercise walking up and down the hills and finally look at the photos. Time for breakfast talk to you soon CIAO.
not really fair
August 13, 2012
You guys know I’m just a cat right? You probably don’t think I care what happens to people so long as my food and water dishes are filled. Well that’s not really true I just heard last night about Ruby’s cousin and his girlfriend had lost their jobs as teachers because the school they worked in closed due to no money. Well it turns out that the people running the school along with some government types stole the money. Now we all know corruption in politics is everywhere but down here they do it with an attitude of you caught me so no what are you going to do and the answer is usually there’s nothing they can do. This situation is bad for the teachers, and it happened back in June the, the real shame is they’re just now getting the kids into other schools. There is also the fact that there is a large school building abandoned and it will probably stay that way for years. If Colombia wants to be more than a poor cousin to other South American economies it has to educate it’s young so that it can advance and although it’s great to maintain a cultured history it time to change the way people think so things can change and become more in tune with the rest of the world and I don’t mean just in music. This country needs geologists, engineers and scientist in all fields to not only be able to study advancements in their fields but to feel needed and appreciated but have the desire and incentive to stay here and help. Anyhow if any of our Colombian readers can help out these to dedicated people drop me a note in the comment section of this post and I’ll forward it on to our friends. In the mean time think about what you can do to help the kids down here get an education and maybe even stop some of this corruption CIAO.
Sunday
August 12, 2012
Sunday morning Jeff’s getting ready to cook breakfast I think he said he making omelets today. They’re going to Olga’s house later today for Camilo’s birthday, his first one in Colombia he’s been used to getting al of money he won’t see that down here but he should have a good time. I spent the morning trying to catch one of the swallows flying by the window, which of course was closed. Some people just don’t like to see me have fun, just because we’re 10 stories up. Here are some more pics of the changing sky Jeff took yesterday. This morning about 2 hours ago it was raining and you really couldn’t see the mountain across the valley now the sun is shining and the clouds are going away. Hey there goes another Swallow I’ve got to run CIAO.
Weekend
August 11, 2012
The weekend is here not that it makes much difference to me and Jeff everyday is a weekend to us LOL. Well they’ve made up their minds about Camilo’s birthday we’re going to his house where Olga’s cooking lunch and I guess a little cake. He’s going to be nineteen nothing special about that around here, when 10 year olds can walk into a store and buy a six-pack of beer. The Colombians got a gold medal in BMX bike riding( which I didn’t even know was an Olympic sport) and you can see the difference between winning a medal in the US and winning one for Colombia. In Colombia they spent over an hour of their nightly news show showing and talking about it, where as in America except for the winner’s home town it really isn’t that big a deal. It seems America once again takes something for granted they shouldn’t and makes itself seem a little more arrogant to the rest of the world. Every one of their eight medals is celebrated like it was supposed to be there are parties in Medellin and the athlete’s home towns bigger than the one we reserve for the World Series or Super Bowl winners I think that’s kind of sad and I hope you guys agree. You remember yesterday when I said there wasn’t a cloud in the sky, well today there’s nothing but clouds in the sky. Maybe it will rain and maybe it won’t that’s weather for you. Time for me to start to enjoy the weekend till tomorrow CIAO
Friday and the sun is shining
August 10, 2012
Friday and there isn’t a cloud in the sky, which probably means it will rain later. Had the guy here to up the brackets for our TVs wore out three drill bits these walls have some sort of super concrete in them , it’s better than anything I’ve ever seen in the US. Still no idea what’s going on for Camilo’s birthday Sunday I’ve said this before thinking beyond today is not something Colombian people do well, which explains some of the infrastructure problems they have down here that and the various major cities don’t talk to each other much. Have you ever carried a compass into a room and looked at it 90% of the time the corners of the room will line up with the north, south, east, and west points on the compass pretty cool huh try it sometime. That comment shows you how dead everything is around here they did have the flower festival this past week but we weren’t able to attend we might head out to the botanical gardens this weekend to see if any of the displays are still up well it’s lunch time so CIAO.
I’m back
August 8, 2012
It’s Wednesday the 8th of August and we just got phone, cable, and the internet and yes the cable company sucks down here to anyhow how’s everybody been anything exciting happening I should know about? The house is all finished it’s hard to hang things because it’s made up of steel reinforced concrete but the view is spectacular we’re on the tenth floor of and eleven story building and we face almost dew east. So the pictures you see are from a sunrise not a sunset and yes I get to look down on clouds and yes it is cool. Hari is here for the day so I can’t really spend too much time here but I promise to bring everyone up to date in the next couple of days I’ll even let Jeff rant about the cable company so for now hope you enjoy the pics and see you tomorrow Ciao.
Moving Day Tomorrow
July 31, 2012
Well the papers are signed and the moving men will be here tomorrow morning. They won’t have much to do Ruby has been packing everything she makes a 20 min move across town into moving the white house to Australia. I don’t think you’ll be seeing any posts from me until Friday they’re going to disconnect the old stuff tomorrow morning and won’t reconnect until sometime Friday afternoon but I will have pictures of the move and of the view from the new place in time for a Friday evening post (I hope). Other than the move not too much to talk about I’m pretty stressed and Ruby doesn’t help that with all her running around in panic mode. Take yesterday for instance the owner of the Apt where we are moving calls at 2:30 and says you need to come now and sign the papers. So Ruby stars running around trying to find someone to watch Hari, couldn’t so we took him with us to do inspection then we had to all go and find a notary and sign everything and we get home we have to call the movers and the cable company and final y it’s time for dinner. It will be even more hectic once we move because John is moving up there until the middle of the month so Ruby will be getting up early and commuting to the old address for a week I guess then it will be just a 10 min walk to Johns house, of course more than half of that is up hill. So listen wish us luck and I guess we’ll talk Friday evening or Saturday Morning CIAO.
