DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOU WERE

September 11, 2022

The title is a question we ask each other on this day or anytime we discuss 9/11. I remember that day and where I was and also where I was on Nov 22, 1963. I also had some other personally bad events that happened. We seem to always remember, almost without thinking, the tragic events which happen in our lifetime. I don’t know about you but I occasionally forget some of the good ones that happen. On Nov. 22, 1963, I was in the Munn Variety shop in East Orange New Jersey talking to some friends. We heard the bulletin saying Kennedy had been shot. I left for home to be with my mom and on the way it seemed every radio in town was turned up all the way and they said he was dead. You could hear people scream and start to cry and then people got scared because we didn’t know who killed him and did this mean war. Well, we all know the rest of that story. I worked in a restaurant on September 11 2001 and I was doing double shifts so I woke up at 8:50 turned on the TV to watch the Don Imus show while getting dressed and saw the story about the first plane hitting the towers and then got to work to see as the second plane hit. I knew then it was no accident and that we were under attack. Later that morning I told my boss I wanted to leave to go help at the towers. They talked me out of it and I still have some regrets about that. I was too old to enlist, but I knew how all those people felt after Pearl Harbor. One thing I will never forget was hearing all planes had been grounded and then one plane was allowed to take off and leave and that plane contained members of the Saudi Royal family. I’ve been told this didn’t happen and I find no mention of it in news accounts of that day. But it happened, and many of my friends and their friends remember hearing what I did. The war that started after 9/11 is still being fought, but that is a story for another day. This is FATS and ANTONIA saying CIAO from Medellin, Colombia
