FERGUSON

November 25, 2014

Ferguson-PartyI’m going to post today about Ferguson and the shooting of an unarmed Black boy. Now before everybody stars screaming Liberal or far right let me finish. The shooting was tragic and I don’t have all the information necessary to make a truly informed comment on who is right and who is wrong. What I will say that the violence of last night did no one any good. As in article I read the looting destroyed innocent people’s dreams, after all they didn’t shot anybody and I couldn’t find out if they were black or white. The violence only serves to help the bigots who will now say see we told you they were animals and law breakers. They don’t deserve to be treated equally. This whole situation reminded me of LA after a video of a black man getting beaten was aired live on TV. I think there is a much bigger problem and I don’t know how to discuss it without making a whole lot of people angry with me. First let me say I’m white and have had only positive relationships with the police. I have friends who when they hear the word police immediately take a negative view. The police for they bring a lot of this on themselves not by doing horrible things but buy being a much closed group. I remember what came out after Katrina hit New Orleans and the corruption that still exists in the police e department there. I feel that a big city cop’s job is one of the most stressful ones in the world it’s certainly one I never had the desire to have. But I also believe that something has to be done that restores people faith in them so that the good ones don’t have to worry about doing their job. That’s very evident down here in Medellin where nobody fears or respects the police because of the corruption, and the I don’t care attitude that prevails down here. I believe there is something definitely rotten if Ferguson and I hope that the people can get this sorted out and stop the violence so that this kind of situation doesn’t happen again. Now I hope this post doesn’t come across as being negative to the police. I have many friends who are current or retired police officers and as I said in the beginning they’ve always been there to help me when I needed it. This is Flounder saying CIAO from Medellin, Colombia.
