I know I said we would keep the posts light but sometimes events take place the dictate otherwise. Such an event happened yesterday with the passing of a great man in Nelson Mandela. Jeff is lucky enough to have been able to watch how he changed a country. Very few people have the opportunity to be great and even fewer are willing to make the sacrifices necessary to do so, Nelson Mandela was one of the few. The world is honoring him today, as it should, but how many people know what he gave up to get freedom for his country and better yet how many are willing to be tortured separated from family and friends and the world for their country. Oh I can hear lots of people saying they would gladly do it and maybe some would. But when the whip comes out and the door calms shut on their cell, I’m not so sure many men would not break down. Nelson Mandela did not break he fought back until his people could be free and once he was free he continued that battle up to the end and not just for South Africa but for people all over the world. Even in death his struggle will continue as people look to his memory and see what determination can do. I may only be a cat writing a stupid blog but even I can get sad at the passing of greatness.
