Comic-Con where are the Comic Books?
July 14, 2012
Ok let’s start the weekend off with a little rant; I don’t know how many of you are familiar with Comic-con? The biggest and best known is taking place in San Diego California as we speak, but I don’t know if you can call it a Comic-Con any more sense it seems to be more about movies and TV shows than the original premise of the best and oldest comic books on display. Now don’t get me wrong their still there but you won’t see general news stories about a Spiderman comic selling for a million dollars like you did when the first Batman movie came out and the first Batman comic (Detective No 27) sold for 87,000 dollars about eighty grand more than previous. Today the book is probably worth close to a million, Jeff hasn’t checked in awhile, that was news back when it happened it made comic book collecting main stream even Nicholas Gage had a million dollar collection he joined the Scientology Church and sold it. Jeff paid for most of his stuff to be shipped to Colombia by selling his comic books and related stuff, and yes he does regret it, it just seems they ought to come up with a new name for this convention. I know comics are now becoming passé, but they represent a sociological study of American history Jeff read a book about that when he was collecting. If we keep doing away with things that represent art and history in our lives we will be doomed as a society to make the same mistakes and to lose our ability to imagine the impossible and make it happen. With those words of wisdom I’m going to take a nap CIAO.
