The next day Ruby and Jeff were introduced to my friends the Lizards Ruby’s not very fond of them, Jeff says they remind him of lizards they sold at circuses when he was very young, they just keep me up at night when they chase ants. That was about six thirty in the morning , I thought they still had to go to work so I got them up early, needless to say they weren’t too happy with me. When they finally woke up after several cups of coffee they decided to go shopping for a refrigerator and washing machine which they found in a store similar to Wal-Mart back in New Jersey called Carafalo. They made arrangements to have everything delivered the next day. I should explain that refrigerators aren’t quite as big in Colombia as they are in New Jersey, that’s because people only shop for one or two days at a time. They have butcher shops everywhere and the same with produce markets so the only thing you buy for the week or month are can goods and paper products. You may have noticed I didn’t mention dryer when I said washing machine that’s because nobody uses them they hang the underwear above the machine and the other clothes outside (in our case on the balcony) and with the sun down here everything dries in about an hour also they don’t use hot water. I should take just a minute to tell you that unless you own your own house and have money you don’t even have hot water in your house.Thats right if you want to take a shower it’s going to be cold unless you purchase an electric shower head to heat the water for your shower all the other faucets in the house are just for cold water you most likely won’t even see a hot water one. This is one of those things that will take Jeff a little time to get use to. Now that they have their major appliances all that is left is to wait for the rest of their belongings to arrive and that’s just what they did they waited and waited and waited. Just about everything in Colombia is cheaper unless it’s electric. Then it’s a little more expensive at least that’s what Jeff has noticed so far.Oh by the way we’re still waiting for our stuff at least Jeff and Ruby are I have everything I need.
Day two of my great adventure
October 19, 2011
The second day in Colombia we got a bed room set with a mattress that Jeff says is harder than the floor. I think its fine; of course I still have my own fluffy blanket. We also went looking for couches and other furniture for the living room and we also started calling the shipping company for delivery of our stuff. That got us nowhere and it stayed that way for another four weeks. We did however get to see a local Giant cockroach and two other permanent residents (the roach was eliminated) two very nice lizards whom I played with at night while Jeff and Ruby tried to sleep .There were also another couple of gatherings. First was a belated first birthday Party for our grandson Hari, I think his father had a better time playing in the ball pit then he did and Jeff took a couple hundred pictures next came a welcome home party for Ruby’s sister Olga this was a very special event because it was the first time in thirteen years that all three of her sisters (including Nelida) were together with their father. Everybody was there, including her crazy aunts from her mother’s side as well as her father’s sister. Her brother in-law Nacho was there telling everybody about his brother’s wedding (his brother is in his 80’s) most people were just ignoring him and listing to the sisters talk of the last thirteen years. Finally Jeff and Ruby came home fed me and went to bed to get ready for another big day in Colombia.
Flounders Great Adventure
October 18, 2011
Greetings my name is Flounder and I’m a cat living in Bello Colombia South America with my two friends Ruby and Jeff. And being a cat I tend to be easily distracted so the timeline might not be exact. That said lets get this show on the road.I wasn’t always in Colombia,I started out in New Jersey USA the parking lot of by Meadow lands arena Where, the story is i was rescued by Martin Breudeaur a hockey player of some renown I’m told, and after a couple of adoptions(I tended to hide and bite in the beginning)I ended up in Hanover at the Mt Pleasant Animal shelter. That’s where I found Jeff,a nice enough guy,we spent the next three years living together in Parsippany NJ then he met Ruby(who’s really cool)and they got married. We spent the next 4yrs living in the same house as before Jeff owned and operated a cleaning service that specialized in professional offices (lawyer’s,Dentists etc.) and Ruby worked at Wal-mart and hated every minute of it.Work finally got to be to much of a drag for them so they decide to retire to Ruby’s home town of Bello Colombia because the cost of living is so much less there.
We left the United states in the morning of July 29 2011 I had fly in the cargo hold no food,no movie but I was given some good drugs just before takeoff. We arrived about 5 in the afternoon and Ruby’s whole family was there to greet us,It took about an hour to get me out of customs. We then proceeded to our new home.I must say the trip was through some beautiful country,of course the cameras were all still packed in the luggage,I’ll make sure he gets some pics and post them later.ally we arrived at our new address(good thing because the drugs were wearing off and I had to pee)Which got interesting because we didn’t have any furniture except a small convertible couch in the living room and everybody was there. They all hung around for awhile.I think they wanted to make sure Jeff didn’t change his mind and bolt for the airport to fly back to the states.Once everyone had left Jeff and Ruby settled down in bed to get some well deserved sleep.I on the other hand prowled around and finally settled in a closet for the night. Day one in Colombia had come to a close.
